We travel on an annual basis to Exmouth meeitng our large family

We have just returned from 2 weeks where tried a number of the resteraunts in town

The Chronicle (which we visited the previous year) was simply by far the best.

2 visits by our group of 3 people delivered beautifully cooked scallops, pork, liver and fish as main course dishes with excellent home made pate and mackeral fillets with quail eggs for starters.

All were served cooked to perfection with extremely friendly service.

If you have a chance to visit the Chronicle you will not be disappointed.

Just to confirm they are still unable to accept credit cards so make sure you have cash with you.

Food was very good and the service excellent. Nothing too much trouble. We had two children with us and they were really looked after.

We first visited this restaurant in February and had a lovely evening, despite it being very quiet and a little lacking in atmosphere. There was only a couple of others in there. However, the food was wonderful...the haddock with Stallcombe egg was a gorgeous match of flavour and textures. This was followed by the pork medallions, which again were absolutely delicious, all followed y an indulgent Bailey's and pistachio pot. Utterly divine! We looked forward to a return visit. However, when we did return in April, what a disappointment. Admittedly it was extremely busy and the waiter appeared new and inexperienced but the menu wasn't hugely different from that of 2 months before. I had the haddock again, which was great, followed by the duck. This was very dry, especially served with peas and beans and crushed potatoes. Could really have done with a jus/sauce to moisten the palate. My husband had the Budleigh stuffed mackerel, and again this was very dry. For pudding I had the almond and cinnamon tart, which was over-baked and despite the teaspoon of cream, still required a drink of water to get it down!. My husband's knickerbocker glory was also very disappointing for the level of food expected. Basically, value ice-cream and tinned fruit. So, what a dilemma...we would like to go back, but the odds are 50/50 on having a good meal. We will probably will give it one more try as when it's good, it's very very good!

God bless Trip Advisor for telling me where to go. This place is fantastic, I honestly cannot praise it enough.

The food was wonderful, we choose from the specials board both nights running and were rewards with fresh fish, immaculately cooked, superb presentation and most importanly it tasted superb.

All food is well priced, in fact I would say it is a bargain compared to what we are used to paying. It is heart breaking to see so many people eating in the Prezzo restauarant just round the corner, if only they took a few extra steps they would be in for a real treat.

I would like to say a special thank you to the owners Kathy and Ricardo who were excellent hosts. We had our 2 year old daughter with us and she was treated like a princess, It is this sort of service that makes a meal extra special for us.

If you are in Exmouth then The Chronicle is well worth a visit.

First time eating at The Chronicle and I would definately go back! The food was really good and the staff are lovely! We booked a table for 22 girls for a Hen doo and we have no complaints! Everything was perfect and they went out their way to help us organise and make us feel at home! Definately worth a visit! xx
