“Lovely setting and friendly landlord and staff...shame about the customers !!!”
Reviewed 16 June 2014 via mobile

We have been having annual holidays at Devon cliffs for 5 years and finally had the opportunity to visit this lovely property for an evening meal. The inside is cosy and unless you book you may not get a table as it's so popular , so we sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine. The menu had a good selection and the food was lovely. My partner even met the landlord who is a very down to earth man, friendly and says it like it is (which is obviously not to some peoples liking!!! Lol). It was only other customers that let it down ...some old woman complaining that there were children in the restaurant (well it says outside families welcome and what do you expect at a family holiday location ...if you don't like children book a saga holiday !) and some other parents letting their children pick the stunning flowers (and then lying about it when asked not to)... The landlord and his wife spend a lot of time making this garden pretty, so have some respect!!! A lovely place and staff are very polite and helpful and although they are small and were very busy we were not kept waiting. Will be going back again for sure!

“Landlord..what a joke!”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

We stayed at Devon cliffs for 1 week arriving on the 30th May we drove past this lovely little restaurant and said it was definitely worth going in there for a meal as it is just down the road from the Haven site. One afternoon after a busy day out we went there for a drink and to have a look at the menu. It was unfortunately raining but there is no where to sit for drinkers inside as its only a very small dining area so we went outside where there is some undercover seating. When we sat outside the landlord and two other men were also sitting out there, we enjoyed our drinks and looked over the menu and discussed what time we should come back later that evening. I was very surprised when the landlord himself sparked up a cigarette seeing full well we had a small child with us, the benches are very close together so there was no getting away from the awful smell. Regardless of his inconsideration we finished our drinks and politely left. Shortly after leaving the bench where we sat my husband overheard the landlord talking to his mates about us, as they moaned about us he said if we didn't like them smoking then we should of chosen some where else to sit. (NOT AN ATTITUDE OF A GOOD LANDLORD...)There is not many places to sit in this small restaurant as the dining area is tiny and there was a family eating in there so we opted for outside. I am truly disgusted how rude and unprofessional the landlord came across when talking about us as paying customers behind our backs. If the landlord ever reads this i would just like to say we would of spent plenty of our hard earned money on a meal in your pub and plenty of more drinks to go with, but due to lack of courtesy, professionalism and just pure manners we went else where. People heads up don't go here its a worthless visit with a sorry excuse for a landlord.

“Rude landlord”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

While staying at Devon cliffs we drove past this restaurant a few times and thought how nice it looked and decided to stop there one afternoon for a drink and also to check out the food prices as we were planning to eat there one evening. Inside is very small and set for people eating so we decided to go outside with our drinks, as it was also raining we had to sit on a bench that's undercover. The landlord was already sat outside with his mates, sitting on the middle bench leaving us to sit on the bench next to it. While enjoying our drinks the landlord and his friends were smoking a lot which we didn't find very nice due to the large amount of smoke wafting over to us. In our party we had a 5 year old child sitting with us and a pregnant lady. We put up with the smoking and nothing was said about it. Upon leaving and having decided that we would come back for a meal there that evening, my brother stood round the corner from the men waiting for his wife and child to come back from the toilet. While waiting he heard the landlord complaining loudly about us and how if we didn't like them smoking we should of sat somewhere else.. We had no where to sit but next to them due to the rain, and we did not say anything to him or his friends.
I would suggest the landlord thinks about his attitude towards paying customers and from looking through some of the other messages on here it is clear that we are not the only people to have found him to be highly unpleasant. Its a shame as it does look like a very nice place to stop for a drink or bite to eat, however if the boorish oaf who runs this place is not careful people will not want to visit his establishment.
In summary a lovely looking place ruined my a charmless man with a chip the size of Luxembourg on his shoulder. Safe to say we didn't return for that meal.

“landlord alert !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

staff lovely , the setting is charming, the chef is very good, prices are reasonable, but the landlord thought it would be appropriate to make a comment about blacks and gays all burning.
we left promptly and will never go back.
should of reported him.
