Description: The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River Exe, and is in the heart of Exmouth’s water sports fraternity, wakeboarding, waterskiing, kayaking, sailing to name just a few, however it is also situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, protected by Natural England. Open from April to September only . The Exe Estuary is home to many rare birds and creatures including Avocets, Osprey and of course our friendly grey seal. With the potential to take up to 100 people on board the Cafe has been designed very much like the “Ski in Ski out” wooden chalets found on the ski slopes of many ski resorts, but with the intention that the quality of food and service exceeds all expectations of the external look and feel. The barge has a licensed bar and covered outdoor space with heaters and indoor seating to relax well into the evening without suffering the cold. Customers to the barge really are of all ages and walks of life, ranging from the usual river users and water sports enthusiasts to bird watchers, artists and holiday makers. Special events such as birthday parties, anniversaries, stag & hen parties to corporate & team building days can be arranged. Private and exclusive use of the barge is also available.

“Great food, great experience! ”
Reviewed 25 April 2014 via mobile

We booked a table here on the Thurs before Good Friday, which unfortunately seemed to be the one cold evening that week, however don't let cold weather put you off going as we still had a fab evening!!

After a short water taxi ride (which you pre book through the restaurant) we arrived at the cafe and were seated, with complimentary blankets to keep us warm, which was a lovely touch.

The menu has a lot of seafood, as you'd expect, and I opted for a sea food chowder - which was really yummy, delicious flavours and not too heavy for a starter.

I had lemon sole for my main, which again was very yummy, and I was left feeling very stuffed!!

The staff were all really friendly and attentive, and gave some great tips to members of our party on how to tackle a whole crab!

Overall a great evening, despite the colder weather!

“River Exe Cafe”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

Well worth a visit. A short river taxi ride from Exmouth, and at low tide, past the grey seals sunning themselves on the sandbanks. Good food and very friendly service. NOT to be missed!

“Something Different”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

The River Exe Café is situated a short ferry trip down towards Starcross from Exmouth, the ferry takes around 15 minutes. The day we went for lunch the weather was awful but done let that stop you from trying it. We ended up being the only customers there for lunch which was great for us as the staff really did look after us. The food was excellent a varied menu of sea food and meat dishes. we've made two future bookings regardless of the weather. it's well worth a visit don't be put off by any weather you want be disappointed.

“Hard to better this!”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

The boat, the river, the weather - all as close to perfect as is possible
this side of Hawaii. But the great surprise was the food: local - yes
truly friendly service - yes. But the "floating ski shack" ambience fooled me
I was not expecting great things, but the food was excellent - probably the best
for many miles around. Better than Michael Cain. Better than Gidleigh Park.
Just downright wonderful.
Thank you whoever you are for pulling all that together in an area that is justly
described as a ?culinary desert"!
Cheers!

“Amazing!”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

The best place to eat by far! Great selection on the menu and cooked to perfection.
The standard is the level you'd expect from a Michelin star restaurant! Fabulous food.
I would eat here every night if I could.
Wrap up warm as it can get cold but beautiful setting and very helpful staff.
