Description: The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River Exe, and is in the heart of Exmouth’s water sports fraternity, wakeboarding, waterskiing, kayaking, sailing to name just a few, however it is also situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, protected by Natural England. Open from April to September only . The Exe Estuary is home to many rare birds and creatures including Avocets, Osprey and of course our friendly grey seal. With the potential to take up to 100 people on board the Cafe has been designed very much like the “Ski in Ski out” wooden chalets found on the ski slopes of many ski resorts, but with the intention that the quality of food and service exceeds all expectations of the external look and feel. The barge has a licensed bar and covered outdoor space with heaters and indoor seating to relax well into the evening without suffering the cold. Customers to the barge really are of all ages and walks of life, ranging from the usual river users and water sports enthusiasts to bird watchers, artists and holiday makers. Special events such as birthday parties, anniversaries, stag & hen parties to corporate & team building days can be arranged. Private and exclusive use of the barge is also available.

Top night out! The whole experience from booking the table, to parking the car and getting the water taxi, to being welcomed at the Cafe, the food the beer and wine and the service all brilliant. Great atmosphere and a fabulous sunset. Perfect! Can't wait to go back.

“Great food, great experience! ”
Reviewed 25 April 2014 via mobile

We booked a table here on the Thurs before Good Friday, which unfortunately seemed to be the one cold evening that week, however don't let cold weather put you off going as we still had a fab evening!!

After a short water taxi ride (which you pre book through the restaurant) we arrived at the cafe and were seated, with complimentary blankets to keep us warm, which was a lovely touch.

The menu has a lot of seafood, as you'd expect, and I opted for a sea food chowder - which was really yummy, delicious flavours and not too heavy for a starter.

I had lemon sole for my main, which again was very yummy, and I was left feeling very stuffed!!

The staff were all really friendly and attentive, and gave some great tips to members of our party on how to tackle a whole crab!

Overall a great evening, despite the colder weather!

Well worth a visit. A short river taxi ride from Exmouth, and at low tide, past the grey seals sunning themselves on the sandbanks. Good food and very friendly service. NOT to be missed!

“Something Different”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

The River Exe Café is situated a short ferry trip down towards Starcross from Exmouth, the ferry takes around 15 minutes. The day we went for lunch the weather was awful but done let that stop you from trying it. We ended up being the only customers there for lunch which was great for us as the staff really did look after us. The food was excellent a varied menu of sea food and meat dishes. we've made two future bookings regardless of the weather. it's well worth a visit don't be put off by any weather you want be disappointed.
