“Fantastic Hotel, Superb Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2011

We have just arrived back after a wonderful few days in Devon staying at the Devoncourt Hotel. If you are looking for a relaxing break this is the hotel for you. We had a swim each morning and ended the day relaxing in the jacuzzi after a day of walking and exploring. The hotel is only minutes from Exmouth sea front and the view from our apartments balcony was amazing. With the city of Exeter nearby and Dartmoor National Park only a short car journey away there is plenty to see and do in the area. I am surprised to see the negative comments about the hotel on here. We found the hotel to be good standard, the staff friendly and helpful and our apartment was clean and well equipt. The quality of the food was fantastic ( I would recommend the sea bass caught which had been caught earlier that day). We have already booked for next year & would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a sea view, the views are not to be missed.

The hotel has all the charm of a residential care home.... The dirty room was ridiculously small with a couch immediately in front of the wardrobe so that you could not open it. The bathroom was not even 4ft across - bending over in the shower was impossible, so you had to leave the bathroom to be able to dry yourself...The room looked onto an enclosure which contained the ventilation for the kitchen. If you opened the window, you were greeted with a foul stench of old fat. The "double bed" was so small and unfomfortable we hardly slept at all.
As business travellers we have stayed at countless hotels from Europe, US, China and Russia, but this hotel definitely takes a top place on of our list of "Places we will NEVER stay at again".

On a positive note, the reception staff were friendly and must be commended on recomending "Les Saveurs" - an excellent fish restaurant nearby.

Wonderful location and excellent service. Magnificent views from a well appointed suite. The restaurant was first class. The best carvery we have ever had! On a Wednesday evening there is a Steak night which includes a glass of wine and on a Friday evening a help yourself Hot Buffet, all home made. A fantastic selection of home made desserts. The restaurant is a family run business and this is very evident. Just wish it was near to my home! Would thoroughly recommend Hotel and Restaurant.

We have been staying at the Devoncourt for years now and always enjoy our holidays here. The suite we had was perfect for me, my mum & my 18 month old daughter. Lovely sea views, nice and clean, extremely comfortable. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. My little one loved the swimming pool too! We'll definitely be back for our next holiday to Exmouth :)

Room Tip: Try & get a sea-view

This is not a review of e accommodation but of the restauirant in the hotel which we ate in as non-residents. We ordered 'Fish of the Day' at £10.95 which one would naturally expoect to be fresh and even local.
What came was a small piece of overcooked dry haddock and four overcooked soft new potatoes and less than fresh salad. Although I complained to the waiitress nothing happened. When I wrote to the Hotel I received an apology but most of it disputed my complaint.

We were promised a room with a sea view and had a Fawlty Towers expectation. In fact we were given a splendid suite of rooms with a fabulous sea view. We had a spacious main room, kitchenette, 2 bathrooms and a good sized bedroom. I am a very light sleeper but I had a very good night's sleep. We were most comfortable with all the facilities provided within our rooms. Breakfast was first class.
