To be honest the room was 'dated' - strip lighting, old style furniture and no 'goodies' in the bathroom.
But, that aside, it was excellent value, all the staff I encountered could not do enough for you without being 'in your face' the room was a good size and clean. The food was well priced and of a good standard and the WIFI (which was free) worked well.
Handy location, easy parking, would stay again, but needs to modernise to get top marks.

Oh dear - our room ended up as a large, cold (even though the old gas heating was on) suite with a small bedroom. It was shabby and very tired - a relic from the 1960s. Broken tiles, mix/match of sanitary ware and a cold tap not working. No one bothered to ask if the room or the breakfast was ok - I think they knew... Didn't stay to see the beautiful scenery. We won't be going back...

Room Tip: Go somewhere different.

Recently stayed at this hotel with relatives to celebrate a birthday. Hotel staff were charming and could not do enough. My husband and I were given a suite and the birthday boy opted for a seaview room - we all thought the hotel was fantastic value for money, clean and very welcoming to guests. We chose to eat in the restaurant and were really impreassed with the quality of the food and the service, after dinner we decided to play snooker in the large snooker room then retired to the conservatory for drinks. We arrived the weekend the hotel switched on the Christmas display and lights which were lovely and very festive. We would definitely stay again in this hotel. Thanks for a lovely break.

This is our second 3 night stay at Devoncourt at low season and again we had a great time, all the reception staff are really helpful and kind. The brand new bar was opened when we arrived, and we were invited for a drink. It looks nice and modern, the conservatory is a great place to have a beer in the winter sunshine overlooking the lovely garden, the restaurant looks very contempary and the menu looked nice (we cooked in our apartment in the kitchenette because we are on a budget ) yes the apartment does need some updating but rome wasnt built in a day! our sweet was HUGE again and absolutly spotlessly clean (again) we played snooker a few times which was fun, because you get the snooker room all to yourself, we went swimming everyday, the pool is lovely and warm! as is jacuzi, pool overlooks garden which you can see while you swim with the sunshine streaming in on you.steam room great as well. We come here on our birthdays in Feb and Nov as a break to get away from kids, Its really really good value, yes some of the rooms need updating, but, you can see they are doing the main downstairs first which is understandable, the whole hotel is huge and was built in the 1920's if you require a 5 * hotel then you will have to pay a 5* price this hotel is very good value so suits us fine, we had a friday night in Exmouth and it took us about 15 mins each way to walk to the sea front. everyone we met in Exmouth was very nice to us aswell. and reception gave us a bottle of Pinot on my hubby's birthday! Thankyou for another great winter break!!!!!!

... but as has been stated by other reviewers this place is a bit tired and dated [the room decor] And yes there was a faint musty smell along the corridors and in our room.

However on the plus side - we got a bargain - the penthouse [2 room apt] with breakfast for £90 per night [total for 5 of us]. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fantastic - they were decorating the restaurant area and this certainly seemed to be freshening the place up.

This hotel is NOT a short walk to Exmouth, and we would recommend a taxi - booked for us by reception. Please note if just getting to Exmouth centre just get the driver to drop you off before the one way system starts - then its a short walk anywhere - the 1st nigh 5 of us got a taxi for £5 whereas the second night the driver went [round the houses] and we were charged £8

Stayed at the Royal Beacon previously, however for our numbers this year that worked out too expensive and we were generally pleased with the Devoncourt and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 207 [Penthouse] was fantastic
