“Helpful and friendly staff where nothing is to much trouble.”
Reviewed 8 March 2011

Our third visit and so refreshing to see the same staff each year, this is usually a good sign of a well run establishment. Excellant facilities even for those wanting a break in the middle of Winter. A very good restaurant catering for all pockets and tastes and served by polite helpful staff. The accomodation is clean and well maintained but a little tired and for someone used to a modern hotel they could perhaps find it a little disappointing. Fantastic views from the south side of the hotel and beautiful gardens which would really come into ther own in the summer with an outdoor swimming pool, tennis court and putting green and large open grassed areas to stroll or sit in.
Overall I would say don't expect to much and be pleasantly suprised.

My wife and I stay at Devoncourt twice a year and always enjoy ourselves. From check-in to departure the staff are extremely friendly and there is always help on hand to tote luggage to and from your room if you require it. The views from the sun lounge and walking/sitting in the gardens are a particular pleasure. The restaurant is currently the best it's ever been as it is now being run as a family business and the Carvery is especially good. The leisure facilities are superb if you're into that sort of thing, I prefer to do a few lengths of the indoor pool (or even better the outside pool if you are there in the summer), then a relaxing sauna or spa bath before a drink in the bar or on the small outside terrace with a view across the gardens. The rooms generally are comfortable, if you are on the garden side of the hotel the sea views are spectacular. The Devoncourt is also ideally placed to walk the Coastal Path or visit the Jurrasic Coast. I see from some other reviews that the decor is not to everyone's taste, well we love the quirkiness of the style and layout of the building and I suggest that if you want slabs of marble, indifferent staff or to wonder which country you've woken up in try a Hilton; we'll stick with the Devoncourt thanks...

Devoncourt Hotel has a charm all it's own. Bearing in mind the building was adapted from another use, the rooms are not what you get from from a chain hotel all much of a muchness and bland but at Devoncourt the rooms are varied in size and shape which adds to my enjoyment of the place. One of my favourite places is the sun lounge with great views over the wonderful gardens which in summer are a colourful delight and at christmas sport thousands of colourful lights and figures.
The management and staff are always friendly and polite.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the service was the best, the staff were great. frendly and attentive.

the suite was very good and clean with lovley views of the garden, that was very well kept and a joy to walk around.

the resturant was amazing, some of the best homecooked food that i have ever had, and quite a good selection, the staff are very helpfull and pleasant.

this is how service should be.

Business -1 night stay

Was on business in Exeter. Devoncourt was described to me as ‘old fashioned and quirky’ by someone who recommended it to me. That was spot on. It had lovely old fashioned ‘feel’ to it , like the service side of things, they offered to carry my bags for me and book me into the restaurant.

The food was good! Homemade soup- the Mushroom was really thick and creamy! I had really old fashioned Apple Pie and Custard and clotted cream on the side! Not a compote or a fluff of this n that in sight! Brilliant!

Room was OK too-I didn’t have a seaview but I could’ve had if I paid a tad extra-just really wanted a room. to sleep in. Spent most of my evening in the Swimming Pool and Jacuzzi.

Got to do a few more meetings in Exeter over the next few months so will be going back-was well within my budget.

We have recently returned from Exmouth, having spent the half term week at the hotel. We were very pleasantly surprised by the spacious two bedroom suite, with a nice lounge and two bathrooms. The small kitchenette was perfect for making our own breakfast which we did on most days. The accommodation was very clean and nicely decorated. There was a large TV in the lounge but would have been nice if there were TV's in the bedrooms as well. The views from the hotel were stunning and indoor leisure centre is fantastic - we could'nt keep the kids away from it, although my husband and I enjoyed the steam room and Jacuzzi and loved the massage chair ! We dined in the hotel restaurant three times which was very good and reasonably priced and with quite a good kids menu. The staff are all very helpful and friendly and plenty of things to do and see in the area to keep us all enterained. We will definitely return.

This hotel really was a gem. was recommended by friends to us for our weekend break. We both have stressful jobs so it was lovely to find this relaxing hotel with very friendly, welcoming, helpful staff. The views from our (slightly dated) room were amazing. The opportunity to get in some lovely walks was good. Restaurant on site was very accommodating for my wifes special diet. Food was varied and very good value. The leisure facilities were good too with something for everyone. Also use of FREE Wifi - brilliant! Would definitley stay again.
