“Short August break”
Reviewed 11 September 2013

Just returned from 7 days at the Imperial Hotel, we had booked for only 4 nights but decided to stay for a further 3 days. We had a great double room with balcony and sea view. Fortunately the weather was great and the balcony was a great bonus. The restaurant was excellent with the menu and service first class. The bar and terrace were good again overlooking the grounds and sea. The swmming pool was however looking very tired with broken chairs and sunbeds. I understand that it is going to be removed and the area planted out. This is a shame as the Hotel has plenty of grounds already and the pool if upgraded would surely be the better option.
The hotel was clean and the staff extremely helpful. The location could not be better and all in all it was a very pleasant short break and good value for money.

Room Tip: Well worth upgrading to bedroom with sea view

This hotel is much in need of some TLC, the room was looking very tired and the bed was very unconformable and well passed its sell by date. The rooms were clean but the hotel needs to use a little less shake and vac as the smell reminded me of an old peoples home. The staff were very polite and pleasant and the breakfast was good but they struggle to offer quick service when the hotel is full. The bar drinks are very pricey four GT's and two pints £23 and there appeared to be no waiting service. Reception is not always attended so this can be a nuisance if you are pushed for time and want to leave you key (I do not like leaving key on counter for security reason when no one is in attendance. Sea view is misleading from some rooms. Not good value for the standard offered.

Room Tip: South side of hotel is where sea view rooms are but beware not all offer great views. Free car parki...

Large seafront hotel...
Friendly reception staff and waiters...
Two course meal for £10, was excellent value....( in imposing high ceilinged room..)
Sadly the pool is being closed... Lounge and bar over look large gardens and the promenade..
Free parking and walking distance of beach, town and river estuary...
Would stay there again...

Thank you for your positive feedback.I agree the hotel has an excellent location. The decision to close the pool was not taken lightly. The pool area is in need of refurbishment. Unfortunately the pool is hardly ever used in the summer months and is quite a hard looking area.
In order to keep the hotel looking fresh, we plan to put a new seating area were guests and non residents can enjoy some lunch, relax, unwind and listen to some background music.

We have just had a week long break at this hotel, we found the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room was kept beautifully clean and tidy, as we felt was the rest of the hotel. Some areas of décor could do with a little touch up though. The food was varied and tasty and the waiting staff very efficient. We had paid for a parking space which was we felt worth that little extra as we didn't have to worry about being able to park when we had taken the car out. The only thing we would change about our break was the noisy seagulls in a morning.

I stayed at this hotel for a business trip and have to report that this is quite simply the filthiest hotel I have ever stayed in and have the photos to prove it.

The staff were unable to change my room as they did not have any other rooms and I was unable to get a refund as the manager was not in until the following day at 3:30 (I only stayed the one night so this was no use to me). The hotels staff just stated that some of their rooms were looking a little tired and were sorry for any problems!!!!!

My issues:

* Th bed was ripped
* The pillows heavily stained and smelt of urine (no pillow of mattress protector)
* The bathroom disgusting and rotting with a rusty chipped bath, see my photos!!!

I contacted the hotel group (Coast & Country) on my return home and asked them to look into my issues. Almost a week later and no reply so they obviously do not care!

AVOID this hotel like the plague

Room Tip: Quite simply, do not book this hotel as the company does not care about your enjoyment

Thank you for your review.
I am sorry that you felt the accommodation and cleanliness was not up to standard. I will look into the room in question.
As you can see from the rest of the reviews we do not normally have any complaints about cleanliness. Coast and Country is a large company and we take our guest comments and complaints very seriously.I am sure our customer care department will be in contact with you in due course.

Very comfortable room with lovely sea view, standard plus. Very clean hotel. Food good and plentiful. Very quiet during the night except for the seagulls outside. Did not need to use the car for the two full days of our visit, which was very relaxing - everywhere within walking distance. Some of the staff needed some extra training - the first night our wine was just plonked on our table by a young lad although both other nights it was served correctly.

Room Tip: Well worth paying the extra for the view

We have just had a week at this hotel. The staff were excellent, very attentive but I couldn't help thinking that they were over worked. We had a lovely sea view but were disappointed in the room. We booked standard after failing to get standard plus and finding the other upgrades far more expensive than we thought was justified. The decor looked a little tired as there was paper peeling from the top of the wall and the paintwork,an aweful almost black, behind the bed badly scratched, when we walked into the room the curtains had come partially off the track and were hanging down in front of the window, incidentally, the curtains were very old looking and badly faded . But having said that the bed was comfy and the linen spotless. and there was an opening window too. Everyone did their best to make our holiday a good experience but it is obvious that they are having to make cut backs like everyone else. Last year they were awarded Best Hotel Garden by Britain in Bloom. This year the gardens were very neglected and many of the planters empty.. So, don't be put off by the negative remarks in this repor,t I am just trying to be honest and at the end of the day we were made welcome and had a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room. Upgrade if you can afford it.Beautiful views from a southfacing room

Thank you for your review.I will look into your comments about your room.We have been running at full occupancy from the beginning of the summer season. We constantly review our accommodation standards and I will look to improve them. The Gardens really suffered this year due to the extremely hot weather and lack of rainfall. However we have had extremely wet weather in October and the grounds are looking better already.I am pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and thankyou for your honest feedback
