“Great Half-Term Venue”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

We've been to 3 different Haven sites - this is the 2nd best according to the kids; our favourite is Doniford Bay - Somerset. The main reason for this is that it is smaller which means the likelihood of meeting/making friends for the kids is so much easier.
That said, Devon Cliffs has so much going for it. The park is massive - we were lucky to be staying on Elms - which was part way between the entertainment area and the beach. Ab-fab location. We had a platinum caravan - well worth it; as an absolute minimum we would normally have the prestige (stayed in other varieties but if you are going 'out of season' like Easter or October half term, you need a better caravan to ensure that you keep warm!).
The staff were all friendly and enthusiastic, in particular the gate/security guys.
The indoor pool and slides were excellent - something for all age groups.
My kids loved the amusement area and soft play/climbing area near to the sports bar.
There are loads of on-site food places - pizza was particularly good; the shop is typically more expensive than a supermarket ( Tesco's isn't too far away - if you want to stock up).
The beach was so wonderful - the sand is golden, it's true there is some seaweed, but walk around it, it doesn't ruin the experience. Try the coastal walks - signposted from the beach area - wonderful.
We had free WiFi as part of our package - the signal isn't great, so at times we struggled. Signal is particularly good just outside of Mash and Barrel eatery.
All in all, a fantastic place to visit, I would definately go again.

Room Tip: We stayed on Elms - had a great view of the sea, was half-way between the entertainment area and the...

We booked this site as we had stayed here a long time ago and knew that it had been updated. As we were taking our Grandchild aged 12 we wanted to have a site with plenty of activities. We booked in and the check in was efficient. Lovely caravan and a good position. Excellent swimming pool also staff very good with children. We are going back again next year. Also a good variety of take away's and not over priced. I am going again for a short break with my family. Great place to holiday in this country lots to do if it should rain.

Dear debbie_clarke61

Thank you for your review about your recent stay here at Devon Cliffs.

It was great to hear that, even after a long time you still found plenty to do and plenty of activities for your grandchild. I was also pleased to hear that check in was hassle free and that the caravan you were given catered for your every need, and was also in a lovely spot.

Once again thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back at Devon Cliffs in 2014.

I booked a 3 night break via the Sun Holiday offer and upgraded to the superior plus so was a bit onsure as to what we would be getting; however we were pleasantly surprised. We were supposed to have a 2 bed and were given a free upgrade to a larger 3 bedroom van with sea views. The caravan was immaculate as was the whole site; there was plenty of parking and also the caravans were not too close together. The views from the fish restaurant overlooking the sea were stunning, although we never actually ate there as it looked rather pricey; however we did eat at the main restaurant and the food was very good however the portions were rather small and myself and my father are not generally big eaters; however the entertainment for the kids was amazing, my two year old was in his element, the security inside the main kiddies room upstairs were brilliant and on many occasions i witnessed them chasing young toddlers who had broken free from their parents and tried escaping from the room. The only criticism i have is that i was not stopped once by security at the entrance of the building to see my pass, this could have been because i had my young child with me but even so ..... Overall a brilliant break, immaculate site, clean caravan, great entertainment. Would definitely go again but perhaps when my son is school age so he can make the most of the entertainment

Dear lisa s

Thank you for your review about your recent stay here at Devon Cliffs.

I am glad to read that you were pleasantly surprised about your caravan having 3 bedrooms rather than the 2 bedroom booked, if we have the availability we do give free of charge upgrades, and although it is not always the case, glad we could do so on this occasion.

The Security team do an amazing job, as do all the other teams on the Park. They do try and keep a watchful eye on all our guests especially to stop the little ones from wandering off. It was nice to read that you appreciated the natural beauty of our Park and equally the entertainment, that our team work so hard to provide.

Once again thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back at Devon Cliffs in 2014.

Kind Regards

I did not want to stay at another Haven due to a previous stay going very sour in the end i am glad we did as not all their sites are run so poorly,
First impressions were not great, we got there late due to what seemed like endless roadworks and had to check in with security who sent us to the opposite end of the site to where we were staying so took us a while to find the caravan, not great if you need security and they dont know their way around.
we stayed for a monday to friday short break in ocean view, the caravan was very nice and clean and i dont think all that old, nice comforts like bigger than usual telly with a dvd player, it had a nice view as well.
People have complained about the gunfire from the nearby army base, its not a problem at all its just light background noise.
Spar shop onsite was great it has pleanty of variation prices were also good, food wise you can go for mash and barrel, burger king, pizza or fish and chips, pizza can be delivered to your caravan also look out for the vouchers for burger king they are left in piles in and around the arcade, the beach hut also provides food however we never got the chance to try it out.
we did not eat lunch or evening meal in the mash and barrel previous experiance has put us off however we did have breakfast a couple of times and it was ok.
biggest negative for me is that the site is massive i cant imagine the facilitys could cope! i would not go here in peak times, out of school holidays was perfect for us.
Childrens entertainment was again ok although it was difficult to get a photo of my children with the seaside squad as they set it all up in a corner with the monopoly on their own photographer.
All in the sites nice the sites clean the staff are nice its a nice area to visit.

Hi Neil P,

Thank you for your review regarding your recent stay here at Devon Cliffs. We are pleased to hear that despite any previous bad experiences you’re decided to book a holiday with us and overall enjoyed it.

We are sorry that your check in experience wasn’t as smoothly as it should have been. Our Security team take over check in once Reception has closed, and they should provide you with thorough directions and a pre drawn map to your accommodation. We apologise if this wasn’t clear to follow.

On arrival to your van we are pleased to hear the location and facilities of the van met your needs.

We hope that on any future breaks you will use more of our facilities and allow us to redeem ourselves. We invest heavily on training and menu selection and choice every year and it would be a shame to miss out. We are sure that on any future visits you will be satisfied.

We are a large park - the largest caravan park in Europe. During peak season the park is fully booked, but we do have the facilities, team and services to keep up with this demand.

We hope that you will consider another break back here in 2014 and we look forward to welcoming you back here in the near future.

Kind Regards

Stayed for 4 days. Arrived Monday and check in was busy but only waited 5 minutes. Everything very efficient and we were in our caravan 5 minutes later. Location of caravan was perfect and had also requested it to be close to some friends; they were only 2 caravans away. The facilities were great for toddlers, younger and adults alike. Staff were very friendly and helpful especially Maria in the Mash and Barrel; Thanks Maria. The beach cafe was great. Could eat or just have a cup of tea. Mussels were amazing. Overall what a great holiday and will definitely be back.

We stayed here for seven nights from 19th-26th October in the Apple Grove section of the park. The beach is a 2 minute walk away (the views from the van across Sandy Bay were stunning, even on a rainy day) and the main complex is a 5 minute walk up the hill. We've been to smaller parks such as Seashore and flagships such as Primrose Valley and this site is right up there. The staff were all welcoming and friendly and there is enough to do on the site that even the most hyperactive kids won't get bored here.

First, all the pluses. The staff are fantastic - From the blokes on the gate, the shop staff and the people manning reception, they were all friendly and on hand if you needed anything. The facilities are excellent - a huge pool with jacuzzi, three slides and a splash zone for the kids, outdoor trampolines, climbing walls & zipwires, water walkers and play areas. Spar, Starbucks, Burger King, Cook's Chipshop and Papa John's take care of the food to go whilst Mash & Barrel and the (little bit expensive) South Beach Cafe take care of the onsite dining. Two Showbars, a sports bar and a huge arcade cover the evening entertainment. There's also a Tesco 5 minutes away by car if you need any more essentials. There's even a nature trail running through the site, with squirrels and rabbits quite happily going about their business everywhere you look. For animal lovers, the Country Life park two minutes up the road from Devon Cliffs is a brilliant way to get your kids closer to animals and wildlife with loads of fun rides and activities on the park. Discount tickets are available at Haven reception. The caravan itself was more than adequate, anyone that complains about damp smells really needs to lower their expectations, caravans get damp people, many people stay in them over the course of a year, open a window and get over it.

Now for the minuses - what the brochures won't tell you is that the site is bordered by an MOD firing range with soldiers testing their weapons skills for about 8 hours a day. That's a minor issue, it's just a background noise that you get used to. A big minus for us was booking with Newman Holidays. Although they came recommended and probably worked out cheaper than booking direct with Haven, their customer care is poor. After booking we didn't get any sort of follow up call, just an email and then a text on the day of arrival telling us about collecting keys. Then we hit a problem. When we made up the beds late in the day after arriving, the double bed frame was broken. We made do on Saturday night and we reported it to Haven reception on Sunday morning. They sent a maintenance guy round who declared the bed "beyond repair" but as it was a Newman booking we had to get a replacement from them. Newman's don't open on Sundays so we had another night of broken sleep on what can only be described as the world's shabbiest pullout bed. On Monday I rand Newman's first thing and left a message. And waited. And waited. No call back. I rang again t be told they'd recieved my call and an maintenance guy would be round in an hour. A call back would have saved a 2nd call, but never mind. The Newman's guy turned up - guess what - the bed was "beyond repair". WE KNOW! We told you that! A bed frame had to be ordered....what? You own numerous caravans on a park made up of hundreds of vans but a frame - and mattress - has to be ordered? It took 3 days to get it replaced. So a total of 4 nights of broken sleep. Newman's had two empty vans that I spotted, but apparently taking a frame from there was too much trouble. Did we get a follow up call? Nope. The next we heard from Newman's was text on the day of departure telling us where to leave the key. Still, they had our money weeks ago, so what's it to them.

Overall, we WILL come back to Devon Cliffs, the park, the staff and the surroundings are lovely. I'd recommend it to anyone. But next time, we'll book it with Haven as we had always done. Newman's Holidays (NewHols) will be waiting a long time to see my ££s again.

Room Tip: The vans at Apple Grove all overlook the bay, ask for a caravan there or close by, the views on a su...

21st October to 25th On arrival a little early,The caravan was ready that was the end of the pluses for this site . We paid for gas and Electric £31 for the week on entering the caravan with lino floors mainly We discovered the heating had been disconnected. The fee did not include this . the door didnt shut quite right sio a draft did come in and with the high level of winds a lot of draft came in . The site is actually sitauted next to an Army training range literally gun shots from early morning to 5 in the evening. The Caravan we were given was at the edge of spruces one from the bottom When the wind got up i seriously thought we were going to go over the edge . . We had been placed although we didnt have one right near the dog walking field ,which added to the noise . We were a very long way from the facilitis although did find the short cut to the beach . The caravan was cleanish but did smell of wet dog. The frying pan base was missing so any early morning breakfast burnt The potato peeler would only peel round corners due to the bend in it . We did on night attemot to watch a football match in the sports bar but due to the childrens play area being located right next door to probably the only bar where children would not want to be ( no entertainment )We left as we could not endure the Screaming any longer or the Television going on and off . .This was a sale booking and I suppose we would have paid a higher price in peak season . I would not book another holiday at this site although the area around it was beautiful

Room Tip: Tip Dont book unless you have insomnia because you are not going to get no sleep here

Hi Cheryl M,

Thank you for your review regarding your recent stay at Devon Cliffs. We are sorry to hear about your disappointment and would appreciate the opportunity to cover some of your raise concerns.

When travelling on a promotional holiday the power charge you pay is to cover the gas and electric to the caravan, but the facilities that come with your accommodation are dependent on the grade you have booked. If you book anything lower that a Deluxe Plus/Premier caravan then your only source of heating will be the gas fire in the lounge. The decor inside the caravan isn’t something that we put together as this is how they are made by the manufacturer. More and more caravans are now being made and designed with a laminate floor which is to prevent it from becoming difficult to clean etc. We work alongside our manufacturers to purchase the best caravans based on our guest feedback, so we will certainly take your into consideration alongside all our other guests when looking at new fleet in future.

We are sorry to hear there was a gap in your door allowing the air to come through and that there were a few items of inventory missing. We hope that on reporting this to the team they were able to rectify for you.

The Shooting Range situated next to the park is not linked to Devon Cliffs in any way at all, and this is something that we are unable to do anything about, as it belongs to The Ministry of Defence and is where it is. Due to national security reasons we are not allowed to advertise the location of this base, neither are we required too as it has to correlation to Devon Cliffs itself.

We are a dog friendly site, and although you may have been located nearer to the walking areas, there is no designated areas for families that do not bring pets. Should the location of your van not of been desirable, then requesting in advance may help this for future bookings.

Haven Holidays is a family focused holiday company, and this will be evident on our parks, as there are no areas where adults can go that children cant. We are sorry that the location of our soft play area interrupted your evening whilst trying to watch the football; however we do not impose any restrictions on children being in this area which is designated for them.

We are sorry to hear that you would not book with us here again at Devon Cliffs, but we thank you for your feedback.

Kind Regards
