We have stayed at Devon cliffs every year for ten years and I have even holidayed there alone so for the size of the park you certainly feel safe and secure. We have always brought our dog on holiday with us and have become increasingly annoyed at only ever being offered basic accommodation, usually a caravan in overcrowded areas with cold shower uncomfortable bed and poorly equipped (Haven please note not all dog owners own badly behaved unclean dogs!) For this reason we booked this year through Newmans and were able to chose a luxury caravan for the same price as a basic one through haven.
Caravan - we stayed at 70 Karo place, well equipped, gated veranda with stunning views over the sea, very quiet however easy access to amenities. Very comfortable bed, hot shower, tv in bedroom only complaint was it could have been a bit cleaner, given the very easy check in we weren't disappointed
Entertainment - because we booked through Newmans we were charged an additional £58 on arrival for two fun works passes, we imagined this was a must as we stayed at Rockley Park in march and had to show these passes when ever we went anywhere near the main complex. Not the case at Devon cliffs we didn't show our passes once during our holiday. We don't have children so didn't use the pool or evening entertainment so my advise don't bother with them if you don't have kids.
Staff- mixed reviews, the guy on the gate gets a special mention (can't remember his name) very friendly and helpful always has a smile on his face, a great ambassador for haven. Some staff in the spa a bit rude. Found the bar staff very slow and service seemed to be on a free for all basis (regardless of how long you had been waiting) not that friendly either
Location - lots of things to do in surrounding area, trip to pecoramma at beer a must. Stunning views from park which is very clean and tidy if a little hilly in places. Unlike other reviewers we didn't hear much from the firing range and our caravan was very close by.
Value for money - this is the reason we are undecided on a return visit. Having paid £58 for entertainment passes we got very little for our money, haven now seem to charge for everything we spent a small fortune and didn't have children in tow. Free wi-if used to be offered in the main complex now you get charged after 15 minutes, be warned the mobile coverage here is non existent. The beach side cafe is very nice, we ate in the mash and barrel as well very mediocre food ( you can get the same quality food for half the price in the weather spoons in exmouth) drinks prices were very high (a lot cheaper at the pub down road)
Over all advise - if travelling as a couple eat and drink in your van or off park and don't bother with the entertainment passes, if you take children take out a mortgage. If you want luxury book through Newmans and choose a van on the outskirts of the park.
