The hotel exterior could do with a face lift. A few hanging baskets and pots would have made a difference ( I know it is October but there was no evidence that there had ever been any) The entrance foyer with chandeliers and thick carpet was good, also the lounge was pleasant. The dining room was clean and the very young staff were very efficient and friendly. There was a choice of food and the breakfasts were bought to your table. ( no self service tha nk goodness) So far so good, BUT - our bedroom was very shabby and we took the bedspread off the bed as it looked as if it needed washing. I don t know how to describe the pillows. I had one very lumpy pillow which should have been thrown out a long time ago and one pancake about one inch thick so I did not sleep very well for the five days we were there. The shower curtain was black with mould, and I tried not to look at the base of the taps which were filthy. I won t even start to describe the toilet brush which "Kim and Aggie " would be disgusted with! On the day that we left we went back to our room after breakfast only to find staff already in there stripping the bed. We had 30 m ins before our coach left and I asked them to leave un til we had gone. They apologised and said they had been told to do it. I would not use this hotel again, although I do not expect The Ritz I DO expect it to be clean.
