“Very good value for money”
Reviewed 17 August 2010

The Hotel is in a lovely location with views across the bay.
The staff are very helpful and friendly, especially the young dinning room staff.
The entertainment was good, the food was fantastic.
Our room was cleaned every day and the coach driver was excellent. What more could anyone ask for from a 2 star Hotel? I thought this holiday was very good value for money.

After reading conflicting reports of this hotel, after i had booked a 3 night coach stay,it was with some trepidation that i ventured into this hotel.no needed to have worried, everything was alright. Position, cleanliness. food ,friendliness of staff.Any minuses would just be nit picking.

Where to start? Our coach was late in arriving due to heavy Friday motorway traffic, but the so called manageress had no welcome to offer after a 8 hour trip, only the gruff message that we were late for dinner, and we better get on with it!!. This wretched woman has two very big chips on her shoulders--she dislikes people who give her a living, and rules the place the place with a face of concrete, but then one can make concrete look better--Our bathroom had a leaking tap and a toilet which would flush only after great effort--cleanliness is anathema to this place as the "crud" under the taps and the glass shelf on top of the basin remained unattended to. On being told about this, we were informed that the hotel's entire water supply would have to be turned off to repair the tap washer--perhaps the plumbers who maintain this place need retraing, as does this manageress, who would have been more at home as a prison wardress with a bunch of keys hanging off her waist.
There was never a greeting when she was spotted, nor an enquiry as to how one was "enjoying" their holiday, and even on leaving day, there was noThank you/have a good trip/see you again.

The beds were "made" by just pulling over the counterpanes, used milk satchets uncleared, cups dirty, and one could go on.
The best part of our stay was the dining room experience; Yes, I know it was a 2 star hotel, but the food was good, desserts better, but the icing on the cake was the cheerful and very friendly young ladies and one man, all of whom had a "can do and will do" attitude, at all times.
Our coach driver was a real gem--he went out of his way to keep us happy and even had a word or two with the manageress when we found the going hard regarding our gripes.
The excursions were superb too.
Yes, we would return to Exmouth, but certainly not at The Ashton Court Hotel who do not deserve their 2 stars. .

the view from our bedroom was fab,the hotel is very tired looking, the carpets were dirty and my sisters bedspread was filthy with stains on.on our return one day our cups and glass in our room hadnt been washed, there were old crisps still under the bed,the toilet roll hadnt been put on the holder. meal times were too regimented and the staff had no idea what they were doing, mind you i dont think any of them were more than fourteen, they needed training and supervision.the back garden only had one table and there were two coach loads.!!!!!!! if they spent a bit of money doing it up it would a lovely hotel. It is also in the wrong position for coah partys of people of a certain age as they cant get down the hill to the sea front,a taxi service would be a good idea at a cheap price. Not once did we see anyone who looked in charge the whole week.Very poor.

The Ashton Court stands prominent above the promenade, on Louisa Terrace. The sea views from the public and front bedrooms are stunning. The interior is pleasantly decorated, if a little tired in a few places. There is a small lift.

Good sized bar (drink prices very cheap for a hotel - wine £1.30, beer £2.10) and dance floor. Dining room on lower ground floor is connected by lift, clean and smart, tables a little cramped for a big party. I had to complain about a dirty tablecloth, one dirty cup and one dirty spoon on different days. Breakfast good, but a little tepid. Dinners OK, better than some 2 stars, quantity good. Plaice was excellent and the Italian beef, too. The young staff are friendly and shock.... almost all English! Great! No more sign language, nor having to ask for "orange jam!"

Bedroom was ok, pillow lumpy and should be destroyed! The second pillow was pancake thin! Towels changed midweek. Bed linen and towels clean and white. Shower temperature varies, so beware you don't scald yourself!

The Ashton Court is pretty standard fare for a 2 star. Don't go expecting three star standars, cos you won't get it. It is up on a hill, so you walk down to the town and sea front. There is a garden at both the front and rear of the hotel, both need some love and attention.

Went to this hotel on a 4 day mystery trip with a coach company in late October of this year.
The good thing was the view from the bedroom.
The bedroom itself could have been better, It was quite small and cold at night as the heating in the hotel was turned off at 11pm each night until the morning.
The shower curtain had black mould on it and the bathroom was in need of general maintainance.
The meals were basic which can only be expected at a 2 star hotel, altough I have had better on other trips . Altought we were the only group in the hotel we were only allowed to sit in one part of the dining room.
There was mostly young staff who were very polite and helpful .
. The Manageress with the long black hair who mainly manned reception ,however was very rude to me on one occasion and then did not speak to me for the rest of my stay. A letter of complaint was sent recorded delivery to the owner after my departure but no reply has been received up to date.
The Entertainer on the first night was quite mature in age and just mainly played unknown music.
On the second night we returned from a show and found both the lounge and bar closed before 1015pm and all the lights out .
However the young male entertainer on the third night was excellent and really got our group involved. He was funny and had a nice singing voice.
I have stayed in 2 star hotels both in Britain and Germany and never had cause for complaint however I would not recommend Ashton Court Hotel to anyone.

This is rated as a 2 star hotel but I have been in a lot worse 3 stars. The room was small but clean and had a lovely view of the seafront. The meals were hot and well cooked. For 4 evenings there was a good choice of meat, fish or vegetarian meals with hot or cold desserts. The staff were friendly and willing to help.
