We stayed at the Manor and Ashbury hotel, a group of 8 (four couples) the guys playing golf, and the girls taking advantage of all the amenities.

On arrival I have to admit I thought I was checking into an old peoples home, as the decor is very clean but just slightly dated, and on walking into the large sitting room was greeted with a raft of the high backed old fashioned chairs all filled with old folk all nodding off or reading books!!.

Anyway got over this sight.... we all went for our lunch, and the cover charge of £5.00 pp for your lunch on arrival was fantastic value. Both the amount and choice of buffet food was fantastic, and you eat as much as you want!!!. The guys then went off for 18 holes of golf, and the girls filled their afternoon with a variety of well planned and organised events.

The room was a large double and single room, so loads of space for the wife and I, again slightly dated but spotlessly clean, and my only critisism was the loo was very close to the bath, and a tight fit!!. Apart from this the room was great , the beds firm but comfortable and the bedding clean.

Us guys played 81 holes of golf over the 4 days stay ( played over 5 different courses), and the quality of the courses was simply breath taking. Every single hole there was some aspect of the hole where you stopped and looked at the fantastic view..... the greens were superb, and I can say without doubt there was not 1 single poor hole in all the golf we played.

The buggies were great and very cheap... but very much a need more than a comodity as the sheer size of the courses and the layout made buggies imperrative.

The food throughout our stay was fantastic, and the bar prices were refreshingly good. The sheer amount of the activities and events you can do is endless... you need at least 2 weeks to partake on all the events, but the quality of the events we all attended were excellent, and very well organised with knowledge and excellent standards.

I would happily recommend a stay in this fine establishment, and we as a group are already planning our next (longer) visit.

This was our 5th visit to the Manor/Ashbury complex, but our first one staying at the Ashbury Hotel. The rooms are comfortable albeit basic. However the owners openly state that any capital investment is ploughed into the facilities rather than the accomodation.
The hotel has 7 golf courses and guests enjoy 27 holes as part of their stay. The courses are extremely well kept and included complimentary buggies and the staff in the pro shop are helpful and ensure you get your preferrences of courses/tee times.
We were extremely disappointed by the restaurant. The food was never going to be haute cuisine but it was plentful if a little bland. The serving staff looked like they would have rather been elsewhere. They did nothing to engage the guests and seemed intent on rushing us through our meals as quickly as possible.
The hotel has gone mad on on signage, do you need 3 notices on one window pane warning of a fire exit?
Will we go back? Yes probably, but only for the splendid facilities. The hotel has allowed itself to get complacent with high occupancy levels and is allowing service standards to slip badly.
