“A pleasant stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

We spent 3 enjoyable nights here whilst exploring this part of Dorset. The highlight is the terrace overlooking the rural countryside enjoying a drink watching the sunset. THe hotel was friendly, the food and facilities generally good. The room was comfortable although they need to do something about the showers. Recommended

Room Tip: Rooms are all quiet being out in the country

We stayed here, as it was close to the Dorset Jurassic coast. It is hidden just below the edge of a long tree covered ridge running inland from the coast. Surrounded by a well stocked garden, the hotel looks down on a very classic English rural valley - patchwork fields, grazing sheep and tree punctuated hedges.
We were greeted by a smiling, 'nothing is too much trouble' receptionist who showed us to a very large, tastefully decorated room. Indeed everywhere in the building seemed recently painted and polished.
Just to note that the restaurant is managed and run by the chef - not the hotel. The food was acceptable but not inspired.
This seems a great example of an English country hotel. It has character and charm. We would definitely go again.

Stayed on Saturday night after a long day in Devon and it was a welcoming and peaceful haven. We had over-eaten at a family party and so could not have done justice to the dinner menu - we shall save that delight for our next visit as we shall surely come back again. The views from the restaurant are stunning, garden a delight to walk in, terrace most welcoming and the breakfast scrambled eggs were the best I have ever tasted.

Room Tip: We stayed in the East wing and the room was well appointed. WiFI is free in the public areas.

We booked this hotel for a night away for a special occasion and we could not have picked a better place. The location and views are stunning and there is such a relaxed feel as soon as you walk in the door. The Receptionist was genuinely friendly and showed us around the hotel as it was our first visit (but definitely not our last) and then showed us to our room and pointed out everything we would need to know for our stay. The room was nicely decorated and the bed really comfortable with great views over the gardens and valley beyond.

We had pre-booked a table for dinner and went down a little early to sit on the terrace for pre-dinner drinks and take in the wonderful views. We were shown to our table when our first course was ready which was a nice touch as it is so much better than sitting at the table waiting. The food was delicious and really well presented and the choices of wines was extensive from all around the globe. We were not made to feel rushed and all the staff were really friendly and attentive. We didn't think we would have room for breakfast but the smell made us feel hungry in the morning and we opted for a cooked breakfast. They were serving a cooked buffet on the morning of our stay due to the high numbers of guests, but unlike other hotels I have stayed at it was all cooked really nicely and looked appealing with the option of eggs being cooked to your liking.

Check-out was at a very reasonable time of 11am so we went back to the terrace to read after breakfast and take in the morning sunshine. It really was a special place and one we will visit many times.

Room Tip: First floor rooms give you the best of the views. Make sure you book a table in the restaurant in a...

Great welcome and hospitality as soon as we got in. All the rooms were well appointed and out the two families children next to each other - great idea.

Tried the tasting menu in the new restaurant which was so tasty and the restaurant had a great buzz.

Kids loved the breakfast buffet and hardly needed lunch.

Looking forward to going there in the summer - Lymn regis Beach here we come !!

Room Tip: Good choice of room, in the garden room great for families to have nearly one floor themselves !

Just had our annual trip to the southwest and again stayed at the Fairwater. I've always loved the atmosphere and this was no exception. What did surprise me was the revamped dining room and bar which now has a light and airy feel to go with the views. We booked a room in the garden suite and these rooms have also had a significant investment in them with wonderful new bathrooms.
As usual it was a pleasure so roll on next year when we will be back again.

Room Tip: Try the Garden suite. Fantastic value

Last stayed here a year ago and was so impressed by the food and what you got for the price that we decided to return.

We loved the changes in the dining room and bar - the owners have given it a complete re vamp and it is a real transformation. Really bright and attractive décor.

We stayed in the Garden Wing and the rooms here are being done up - we stayed in Room 15 and it has a gorgeous new bathroom and overlooks the pretty tranquil gardens. The hotel is easily missed as it is slightly off the beaten track but if you are visiting Lyme Regis, Axminster or Bridport areas I would highly recommend it for its food, the delightful gardens and peaceful setting.

Room Tip: The main hotel was always our preferred choice but now the Garden Wing is being re vamped we would r...
