We stayed in the Old School House for Christmas 2013 and had a lovely time.
Edward and Lucinda are friendly, helpful hosts and their house and this cottage is extremely comfortable and welcoming.
The cottage is cosy and warm, has a wonderful mezzanine bedroom with a wonderfully comfortable bed and a lovely open fire downstairs.
The eggs from the hens on the small-holding were the best we have tasted - we even came away with 12.
The cottage is well located and we can highly recommend this for a cosy, quiet bolt-hole for discovering North Devon.
Hilghly recommended.

We stayed at this delightful converted Victorian school house for two nights and wish we had been able to stay longer. This cosy little cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished with an amazing painting on an entire wall. The half tester bed was not just romantic but extremely comfortable. Good heating and plenty of hot water for the power shower and lovely bath. Well equipped kitchen though we didn't need to use it, we had Edward's fabulous breakfasts and Lucinda's yummy tea time cakes (would have had a loaf of home-made bread if we had been self catering).

What a find. Stayed for 3 nights in the self catering cottage that is part of (but separate from) Springfield House. Our hosts were welcoming & keen to ensure that we had everything we needed for our few days. Open fire was already lit on arrival, milk / butter provisions in the fridge & a fresh homemade loaf in the bread bin (oh & 1/2 dozen fresh eggs from their chickens). Tucked away in its own secure small garden, the owners have created a wonderfully cosy retreat on the north Devon coast. Beautiful handcrafted green oak stairs leading to a wonderful 'nest' of a canopied double bed. Small but perfect kitchen complemented by an excellently appointed bathroom (the slipper bath was most enjoyable to soak away the day in). No issues with heating or hot water (both could be turned on / off as required as well as set on a timer program) & the open fire was simply glorious. Compact living space may not suit some but we found it to be comfortable, homely & a delight. We will be back for a longer stay. Highly recommended.

Arrived mid afternoon after 6 days on the coastal path. We had booked a room in the main house (4 months previously) but were shown to the self-catering cottage behind the main house. It felt cold but were told "the heating would come on soon". "Soon" turned out to be 2 and 1/2 hours later - we did go in search of the owner sooner but she couldn't be found. Canopy bed on a mezzanine floor up a bare wooden staircase, which could be a problem for the less mobile.
Breakfast around a communal table (but other guests very convivial). Cooked breakfast OK but bacon overcooked. Altogether a bit disappointing. We wouldn't stay again.

We stayed one night in Springfield House on our SWCP walk. If you like perfectly decorated old houses you will like this place. I little bit off the "centre" of Instow but still only a short walk to pubs and restaurants. Our room (the Linwood Room) was really spacious with two big windows, a big bed and perfectly decorated as the whole house. The bathroom just opposite the corridor definitely deserved the characterisation "room" as it was very spacious as well. The very welcoming hosts, the perfectly cooked breakfast and the WiFi make this B&B a perfect place to stay. I can absolutely recommend Springfield House.

We stayed in the two bedroom flat at the top of the house and it was fantastic. The flat was beautifully decorated and it had everything you could want or need. A shower and a bath, a fully equipped kitchen, a comfy lounge, all topped off with amazing views. The owners, Edward and Lucinda, were brilliant hosts and we'll definitely be staying here again next time we go to Devon.
