Reviewed 20 July 2014

Losing count of the number of excellent meals we have had here!
Visited for a birthday this time. First class food and service as usual. Lundy sole was delicious.
Gary and James are great hosts. Can always recommend this hotel.

Family visiting from abroad !, where to go for a lunch that they will remember and speak about when they return home ?.
The Commodore at Instow, of course.

Lunch was excellent with a long list of ' Specials ' as well as the standard menu. The very helpful and pleasant staff assisted in making the lunch hour last for 3 hours and we did not notice it.

The views looking down the grass lawn from the dining tables, past the Union flag and pole to the River Torridge and across to Northam & Appledore are exceptional.
This is well worth a visit for lunch or an early evening meal and we will come again just for the views, ( but also for a meal of course).
Well worth a visit.

Although not staying at the Commodore Hotel, we were recommended to the hotel for an evening meal. We tried the bistro, rather than the main restaurant, preferring a more relaxed environment, and thoroughly enjoyed our evening there. The service was excellent, as were the meals.

Another faultless return. Professional and very friendly staff, view, immaculate rooms, delicious evening meal, nothing more to say we love this hotel etc. etc. Look forward to our return in December.

Another superb week at The Commodore..... staff; food; service; view; etc; etc; etc ALL great. Plenty of exercise and fresh air around the local areas were rewarded with an exquisite dinner. We cannot fault anything - hopefully we can return soon - even though our daughter's wedding will intercept an early return!!!! The restful week has given me the energy to face a busy time at work next week........

Great location. Right next to the sandy beach and with fantastic views over the estuary. We got to see the sun set over the sea 2 nights in a row (even saw the 'green flash'). Staff friendly and hotel clean. The other guests mostly elderly, which meant it was nice and quiet!

The only minus (and it was quite a big one) is that 2 out of the 3 of us had very upset stomachs on the second night of our stay. The only thing that the 2 of us had had (that the third hadn't) was soup and sorbet at the hotel. So it seems highly likely that one of those was the cause. We can't prove it of course, but I can't see what else it could have been.

Came down from london for a wedding. This hotel was recommended by friends who are frequent stayers. Nice room overlooking the estuary. Great sunsets if the weathers right. Immaculate throughout. Service is excellent, hats off to Jamie and the restaurant crew. Housekeeping staff also excellent. Food is imaginative and plentiful. Relaxing stay only marred by the weather!
