“Nice location, well-equipped”
Reviewed 18 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

An unusual exterior gives way to a well thought out and well-equipped apartment which had everything we needed as a base for a our 5 day holiday including the essentials: a comfy bed and a decent shower!
Access to the Cabin is by way of three steep steps and care is required especially when wet

We stayed in the cabin for 10 days in April. We really enjoyed our stay and found it an ideal location for touring north Dartmoor. Jean was very easy to deal with when booking and we really appreciated the delicious Devon Cream Tea she left for us on our arrival. The cabin itself had wonderful views of the countryside and was very quiet. We slept really well at night and were woken early in the morning by singing birds and grazing sheep. We even saw a pheasant in the next field. The internet was very good and the heating was so good we didn't need to use the wood stove. The kitchen was well equipped. The shower was roomy and had plenty of hhot water. All in all, we had a great stay and would recommend the cabin to our family and friends.

“Great location”
Reviewed 24 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

What a great location, and so much history about Burton Hall Jean was a great host.
The cabin is perfect open plan concept, you have everything you need warm and very comfortable you have a small fireplace also which was great for the evenings we used was a little chilly the nights still for the beginning of May but well worth the time to enjoy. You have easy access to everything and its a good starting point to tour Devon.

“Well equipped & cosy cabin with excellent views”

"The Cabin" at Burton Hall was everything we were looking for as a base from which to explore mid- and north-Devon. Sat in the sun eating a cream tea provided on arrival by the owner, the scene was set for a really enjoyable stay. Equipped with everything we needed for our four night stay, the log burner (and the logs provided) made for warm & cosy evenings after the sun had gone down. Looks quite small from the outside, but was well laid out and really spacious & airy on the inside. Comfortable bed & plenty of wardrobe space in the bedroom. With excellent weather for our stay, we took advantage of opportunities to walk the hills of north Dartmoor, and even tackle a short bit of the Tarka Trail. We have already booked for a return visit next year.

We loved the Cabin at Burton Hall. A cosy place to stay, with lovely views from 3 aspects. We were treated to welcoming fresh scones, a bowl of apples from the garden on arrival and were grateful for the milk in the fridge as our's was still frozen! Loved our private little garden where we watched the birdlife and the sheep - our little piece of heaven. Nice walks from the door and a very friendly town (North Tawton) a few minutes away. And, of course, there's the fabulous Hall itself. Has to be seen to be fully appreciated. Our gracious hosts, who are currently restoring the Hall, showed us around. From the imposing entrance doors to the high ornamented ceilings and wood panelling to the gorgeous view of Dartmoor from the splendid verandah, it's certainly a must to see. A perfect few days.

“A superb base in which to relax, and from which to explore beautiful Devon”
Reviewed 16 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

This cabin was absolutely ideal for our week in Devon. It has been recently developed and all the equipment is fresh and modern. The TV is of good size, there is ample storage space in the kitchen, and the wifi gives a continuously strong signal. Overall the property has an air of freshness an cleanliness about it.

The enclosed private garden is a great space for a barbecue, and you are frequently observed by inquisitive sheep on the hillside adjoining the cabin (and the odd squirrel)!

Jean and Martin are very welcoming hosts and ensure everything runs smoothly with the letting. They live in the adjoining mansion, which in itself has a fascinating history and they are happy to give you a tour of this unique property.

There are many delightful walks and runs available from the property, and when you wish to venture further afield, the area is scattered with quaint villages full of character and history. There are many decent pubs in which to eat, and a nice café down in the village. From a self-catering point of view, there is a decent Spar only half a mile from the property, and two medium-sized supermarkets in Okehampton, about 20 mins drive away.

The village of Lydford makes a fascinating day out, particularly for those interested in History as it was the subject of Clive Aslet's brilliant `War Memorial' book. It also features one end of the Granite Way, a 9 mile cycling / walking / running route entirely on tarmac or firm trail.

The property is only 25 mins from the edge of Dartmoor, with its stunning scenery and characterful towns and villages.

We did not even have enough time to get to either the north or south Devon coasts, as there was so much to enjoy within easy reach of the property.

We have stayed in many places in the UK over the past few years and this is a definite favourite. We loved it so much we have already booked for next year!
