“What a fantastic place!”
Reviewed 27 October 2013

We decided to have our DIY wedding at the wonderful Whitechapel Cottages and i only have good things to say about the wonderful warm welcome and beautiful, peaceful surroundings. We hired out the entire site (2 cosy cottages and a beautiful big house as well as a bunch of campers in the rather fab bell tents) for the weekend and we had a most amazing time... the day after everyone else left we jumped into the hot tub and sauna and it was bliss! :)
The family that owns the site are really wonderful, down to earth people. I couldn't recommend this place more and we will be heading back there again.. perhaps for our anniversary! Very fond memories! Great place! :)

we just had a week in the Grooms Lodge with Diesel or Greyhound. fantastic little cottage, with everything you could need, woodburner with access to a huge free wood store if you want to use it. Chris & family were so polite & helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The coarse fishing was excellent (a tough climb back though) Pheasants everywhere, briliant selection of birds on the feeders & endless walks to be had, Loads of good food pubs around, we would love to go back

Lovely cottages in a wonderful location. Chris was an excellent host and really made you feel welcome. The health spa and sport facilities on site were a nice touch and helped unwind after a busy day of mountain biking around the area. We stayed in cartwheel cottage and couldn't fault it. The accommodation was spotless, quiet and very cosy. highly recommend!

We stayed over new year and had all three cottages. The setting was lovely and although well and truly in the countryside, we didn't feel too out of the way and were able to visit a couple of local pubs without any difficulty, as well as the local Sainsburys!

The cottages were all decorated nicely, with real fires in each one - lovely to come back to after a cold and wet walk! The jacuzzi and sauna were great, and we got good use out of the games barn too - perfect for a change of scenery after a lazy day indoors.

We ordered a Tesco delivery to arrive when we did and Tesco found us with no difficulty. Would definitely recommend doing this!

The owner, Chris, was friendly and relaxed but on hand to help if we needed him.

Loved the bird tables outside each of the kitchen windows and have since purchased one for myself, although the sparrows and pigeons don't quite compete with the woodpecker we were lucky enough to spot!

All in all, a fantastic stay and we'll definitely be back! Such fantastic value for money and a really relaxing place.

Very special family memories were made at Barton House thanks to the relaxing and tranquil atmosphere, the peaceful setting and the warm welcome from Chris and his family.
The facilities were superb and exceeded all expectations, the dogs thoroughly enjoyed the space and dog friendly surroundings.
The kayake and canoe lessons will be re told at many dinners to come and the fish caught will no doubt grow as time passes.
A solid base for touring the southern tips of Exmoor with the more well known areas only 30 to 40 mins drive away. However, so lovely was the House and Estate that for the first time in our holidaying lifetime we chose to stay around and enjoy what was on our doorstep, which was magical - herds of deer, huge carp and tench, bashful trout and a hot tub to die for.
The cream tea on arrival was a lovely and thoughtful touch as were the extras within the house - good selection of utensils, warm rooms, washing powder, I could go on and on...
Everyone was happy - which for our family takes some doing!

Room Tip: You wont be fighting for the view, they have all got them! Ground floor bedroom and bathroom brillia...

We had a family holiday, staying in Barton House in early July 2012. We have stayed on the farm before but not in 'the big house'. We all had a great time and even though the weather was a bit hit and miss there was plenty to keep everyone amused with the health suite, the games room and canoeing on the lake. As always Chris and his family went out of their way to make sure our holiday was extra special.
Whitechapel Barton has a way of getting into your heart and you will find yourself returning again and again.
