We stayed in May 2010 for the 'garden tour' we had also stayed the previous year, on both occasions the food was superb and service excellent. You couldn't find a more accommodating and helpful staff, at the same time very professional. The garden tour was extremely well organised and carefully planned, to be recommended.

Unlike the rest of the UK, the weather at Thurlestone was glorious during the few days I was there. As always, Thurlestone is the perfect place to escape the pressures of London and take the dog walking along the cliff path with the most amazing views of the sea. I never took the car out at all for three days! Lunch was crab sandwiches on the terrace and enjoying the beautifully presented and excellent dinners in the restaurant in the evening! The food is fantastic! Not huge portions ( which is a plus) but excellent quality and imaginative without being too clever. My room was comfortable with staggering views and a huge balcony but really for me it is the staff at the Thurlestone Hotel who make the place so special. This was probably my tenth visit over a period of fifteen years and to me the hotel just keeps getting better. I have recommended it to friends who are now also regulars. The delightful couple on the next table at dinner had been three times this year already! So keep up the good work, Julie and team and I'll see you again in the spring, all being well, if not before!!

Not the first time i have stayed here. Dont get that way very often, but when i do i always make sure this is the place i stay at as it is so differant to other hotels.
It is obvious that it is not a chain and that it is privately owned as the feel is completely differant. The rooms and the views are spectacular. The village inn (pub attached to hotel that they own) is very friendly and relaxing also.
The local area is wonderful to visit and as well as business trips i have also had the pleasure of takiing holiday weekends down there.
Would recommend to anyone (and have done!)

We recently had a short break at Thurlestone Hotel. After winding our way down the country lanes we were very pleased to reach the hotel. We had lunch on the outside terrace with great views over the coast. We played on the ninehole golf course, and enjoyed some coastal walks.

Our room had great views, but we felt it was in need of a refurbishment, as did the bathroom which was quite small. I understand that there is a refurbishment programme going on. I would suggest requesting a refurbished room when making a reservation.

The hotel is very traditional, and it appeared that a lot of the other guests had been going there for many many years, and knew each other and the staff quite well.

There is one setting at dinner, and you have the same table for the length of your stay. The dinners were very good with a good selection of choices.

There is also the Village Inn, at the side of the hotel which is good for informal lunches and drinks.

If you enjoy a very tradional hotel with great views, this would suit you. We found it expensive, and not sure we would return because we also found it slightly too formal.

Fashionable neighbourhood village with slightly less upmarket hotel but this hotel is still reasonably good. the south facing rooms all have good views across the small golf course to the sea. There is a good terrace and separate area to drink and eat outside. The interior rooms are a bit dated and not that stylish but the hotel has a comfortable feel and is moderately well equipped. We had an enjoyable weekend which incorporated a wedding at the local church and village hall and we got comfortably lubricated in the convivial village pub which seemed to be adjoining and possibly run by the hotel.
