“Wonderful comfortable beds and delicious food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2010

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night break. The staff were very welcoming, the beds were blissful, the views were beautiful and the food was of a very high standard. Also we had excellent massages and enjoyed the indoor pool and jacuzzi.

This was a very special time for us - our 50th wedding anniversary to be spent with the people most dear to us - our 2 daughters, their husbands & 4 very precious grandchildren. Thurlestone had been recommended by 2 friends who had spent 3 holidays there, one of them with their family for a 70th birthday. Of course they were concerned that it didn't match our expectations - its a bit tricky to recommend in case it disappoints - but they need not have worried. Thurlestone will live on in our memories as one of the best times we have ever had. Its a fabulous place - ok, maybe the outside of the building isn't that beautiful - but just look at that setting! Add to that the care of the staff, for whom nothing seemed to be too much trouble, and the great food and extra amenities on site and you have, in our opinion, the whole picture.

We were recommended to this hotel and its location is excellent although the beach is more than a five minute walk away. We had a very good sized room, superior sea view overlooking the bay. We found that the staff were very friendly and helpful. There were just a few niggles. The top of the fridge cupboard had only been dusted around the hamper of packets of drinks and I found a cloud of dust when I moved the hamper. The gunge around the bath taps could have been attended to. You pay quite a hefty supplement for these rooms and yes the bedding and towels were changed everyday and the bed was very comfy but I didn't expect to see torn wallpaper.
As our room was opposite the laundry room we did hear quite a lot of chatter and laughter from the staff outside of our door. Nice to know the staff are happy at work but at times it was intrusive or perhaps the hotel needs bettter soundproofing.
Overall we were very happy with the choice and quality of the meals and would return for that alone. The pub next door was a disappointment. Very high prices for a pub meal but this is the Salcombe area where prices are above average.

This long established family owned hotel is situated in an ideal location with stunning views out to sea. Our room with balcony had been refurbished to a very high standard. The quality of food and service in the restaurant were excellent. The staff are friendly, courteous and efficient .

We stayed in May 2010 for the 'garden tour' we had also stayed the previous year, on both occasions the food was superb and service excellent. You couldn't find a more accommodating and helpful staff, at the same time very professional. The garden tour was extremely well organised and carefully planned, to be recommended.

Unlike the rest of the UK, the weather at Thurlestone was glorious during the few days I was there. As always, Thurlestone is the perfect place to escape the pressures of London and take the dog walking along the cliff path with the most amazing views of the sea. I never took the car out at all for three days! Lunch was crab sandwiches on the terrace and enjoying the beautifully presented and excellent dinners in the restaurant in the evening! The food is fantastic! Not huge portions ( which is a plus) but excellent quality and imaginative without being too clever. My room was comfortable with staggering views and a huge balcony but really for me it is the staff at the Thurlestone Hotel who make the place so special. This was probably my tenth visit over a period of fifteen years and to me the hotel just keeps getting better. I have recommended it to friends who are now also regulars. The delightful couple on the next table at dinner had been three times this year already! So keep up the good work, Julie and team and I'll see you again in the spring, all being well, if not before!!

Not the first time i have stayed here. Dont get that way very often, but when i do i always make sure this is the place i stay at as it is so differant to other hotels.
It is obvious that it is not a chain and that it is privately owned as the feel is completely differant. The rooms and the views are spectacular. The village inn (pub attached to hotel that they own) is very friendly and relaxing also.
The local area is wonderful to visit and as well as business trips i have also had the pleasure of takiing holiday weekends down there.
Would recommend to anyone (and have done!)
