Cosy bar with log fire blasting, bar area small enough to engage with locals and find out all the news going on in this lovely village, in the space of 2 evenings we met: 3 local farmers, a banker, a builder, an electrician and a carpenter, along with 2 lawyers an actress and a local author who writes about the afterlife!
The Village of Witheridge certainly has an "other, old world feel" and The Mitre sits at the heart of the Village, landlord has lots of jokes and is very chatty, food is exceptional, great specials board with lots of unexpected goodies, Scallops with pancetta was one favourite starter, Venison, Duck breast with a redcurrent sauce were other choices. The home made desserts are to die for! There is also the printed menu of Ribs, Curries, fish & chips. The Steaks are exceptional, we ate there 4 nights of our 7 day holiday.
We noted that they also had rooms for B&B which we will use next time as they seemed very reasonable for the area. Children and dogs were welcome.
