The hotel was very easy to find - well signposted. Lovely food in both the restaurant and club house and staff were polite and friendly. Very clean and good size rooms. Good location to visit coast. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay - would book again.

Having booked half board (dinner then b&b) my work finished late, we forgot we had booked dinner and arrived full with motorway fast food. The receptionist pointed out our commitment, we admitted it and she said we would have to pay the full price unless www.booking.com agreed and said she would contact them. 30 minutes later all was sorted between the hotel and Booking.com with no input from me and £40 knocked off the charge without dispute.
Full marks to www.booking.com and to Woodbury Park Hotel. Both lost short term profit, both gain long term goodwill from us and, I hope, from others.
Rooms good, v hot water.
Breakfast starts at 7 and v prompt service.
If you want to get to Lympstone from the hotel use a map, a Garmin updated satnav tried to take us off road in a 2wd VW Golf! 11 Mins turned into 30+
I do not expect to and would not agree to profit in any way from this review.

I took my daughter for a spa treat. We used the facilities of health spa. The pool area was lovely with a hot tub and sauna. The massage was the best I have had. The conservatory was a lovely place to have a coffee and relax

We stayed here for 2 nights from 3rd January 2014 in a room with balcony overlooking the golf course. Hotel is in a great location, 10 minutes into Exmouth or 20 minutes to the centre of Exeter. Plenty of activities to experience in the surrounding area for both adults and children.
Hotel room quite spacious with good facilities including tea/coffee/kettle, small telly, complimentary toiletries and such like as expected for a $* hotel. No aircon so needed to leave the balcony door open at night.
Good leisure centre with 20m pool, sauna, Jacuzzi and well equipped gym.
There is an 18 and 1 9 hole golf course with club house next to the hotel. This has a large bar and a dining room (called the Conservatory) and is very pleasant. The hotel itself has a smallish bar and a good sized restaurant.
We ate in the hotel both nights and the food was a letdown. My partner had gammon which was good but I chose leg of duck which was very poor. Very pale in colour and tough which suggested poor cooking. The next morning at breakfast the bacon in my full English looked and was so overcooked that it could not be cut. This was supposedly cooked to order but was one of the poorest breakfasts I’ve ever had anywhere. That evening we both went for pork fillet and the portions were small. My partner’s starter of poached pear had obviously come straight from the fridge and they’d forgotten to warm it. Finally the Sunady morning I ordered the poached haddock. Again this was so overcooked it required considerable chewing, it was like eating bubblegum. The pastries on the buffet both mornings were dry and top, soggy on the bottom but we did arrive at 9am and so they may have been there since breakfast started a couple of hours previously. Note that even on Sunday breakfast stops at 09:30.
We were sold a special offer bottle of wine on the first night reduced from £40 to £20, a South African 2008 Pinot Noir but this had seen better days and was thin and lacking flavor. The following night we chose a bog-standard Chilean Merlot which delivered consistency for £16.95.
Service was ok apart from forgetting our water on the first night and a slowness to take our order on the second night. Some of the staff were obviously inexperienced and thus lacked the confidence/training to provide good service.
The hotel had a busy Christmas and New Year so may be the prime kitchen staff were on holiday but a 4* hotel should really have no excuses for such poor food. I’m normally quite vociferous in making a complaint but as this was a special occasion for my partner I had to grin and bear it. They need to take a good look at the restaurant.

Room Tip: Rooms behing reception have golf course views

My daughter and her husband chose Woodbury Park for their wedding in November and it was an excellent venue. Most of the guests stayed for 2 nights and we were all very pleased with the hotel accommodation and the spa. The food was good too. We stayed in the lodges which were ideal for a family. They were warm and cosy with a large lounge and kitchen and had lovely views over the golf course. Thanks to Lucy and the other staff who helped make it such a special day.
