“Perfection!”
Reviewed 30 August 2011

My now husband and I stayed at The Rocks Hotel 15-17th August, I booked a king size room in June and explained that my husband and I were running away to Devon to get married in secret. The hotel has its own car park and parking seems to be at a premium in Woolacombe in peak season so this was very useful. My first impression on entering the hotel was it was like a luxurious home, Martin and Wendy the proprietors give a lovely warm welcome, had the look and feel of a boutique hotel. There is lots of useful information about local attractions, eateries and local firms in the hotel which is really handy. Prior to our arrival Wendy & Martin recommended restaurants and nothing is too much trouble.
On arrival our room had helium balloons in and a bottle of bubbley a lovely touch, oh and rocky bars which were yummy, not had them since my my youth! The bed was large and for the first time in many stays my husband did not complain about the bed and said it was comfy, lots of storage space in the bedroom and two comfy chairs. The ensuite had a spacious shower and was bright and airy.
The location of the hotel is perfect, minutues from the beach, shops and restaurants, if you were planning to stay in Wolacombe there would be no need to drive anywhere.
The hotel allows you free use of bodyboards and wetsuits, this is a real saving and we had great fun.
Breakfast is a unique experience and a blast, great choice of continental breakfasts as well as a hearty cooked breakfast.
The other guests staying in the hotel were made up of very nice couples and families, all very friendly.
On the morning of the wedding Wendy even helped me into my wedding dress, the duke box went on for our first dance and the following morning our breakfast table had just married banners on!! Wendy and Martin are such kind and caring people and are what makes The Rocks Hotel work so well, you arrive as their guests but they treat you like family.
Another must is to eat at The Rock Inn Georgeham, you need to book we went on a tuesday evening and acked but a sign of amazing food.
We have booked the self catering apartment with our baby son next August to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and there is no-where in the world I would rather be.
Thank you very much Wendy & Martin!!

We stayed here based on a recommendation from some friends and did not regret it. We found the owners to be very friendly, the atmosphere welcoming, and the rooms clean and nicely decorated. The sea view was also excellent.

The dining room deserves a special mention for its amazing atmosphere (including juke-box) not to forget the excellent breakfast which was served there.

The beach, shops and restaurants are all within a couple of minutes' walking distance and for a rainy night in there are plenty of DVDs which guests can borrow and play in their own room.

Altogether a great stay and highly recommended.

Jitse

Wendy and Martin are so friendly , we felt so relaxed straight away. We had a room with sea views which was so beautiful. Being able to borrow wetsuits and bodyboards was a huge advantage to us and the outside shower made life so much easier when we got back from the beach. I would definitely recommend a stay at The Rocks: Wendy and Martin are so welcoming and it is so close to the beach too!

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view are lovely with beautiful views to the beach, rooms by the road can be noisy.

Been three years in a row - excellent value for money, close to the beach and wonderful hosts. We've already booked again for next year to ensure we get in!

Wow whata relief that we found the Rocks just by chance after running out of the rotten hotel we had booked!! the hotel was greata real home form home we idnt feel like we were being watched, it felt very free. this is also down to the fact that Martin and Wendy are so laid back. the diner is fab and the jukebox is great. we l def go back and ill be telling friends and family to go too!

A fabulous hotel! Martin and Wendy attention to detail is evident at this spotlessly clean hotel. The breakfast was perfect as was the special breakfast room. The hosts were welcoming, kind and had excellent local knowledge. The bedrooms were well furnished and equipped (loved the smell of the soap in the shower!) Will certainly be back for more next year.

This is a very friendly, extremely central hotel. We stayed in the apartment with two children and had a great time. The hosts were very helpful throughout, the room was spotless and very well furnished including many games and DVDs in the room, to our kids delight.
