4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2013

My partner and I were staying in a house on Tarka Lane, which is vitually opposite The Fortescue. We attended there for a meal on two evenings and found the hosts to be very friendly. The locals were very friendly also. There is a good menu choice with something for everyone and a couple of specials on the board. On both occasions I had a good meal. The first occasion I had the chicken, ham and leek pie and on the second I had the Thai curry. The food is a good portion and was served piping hot which, is always a plus in my book. It was also very tasty and the chips were well done, which was great as I hate nothing more than a pasty chip! ;)
I have no hesitation in recommending the Fortescue for food and a warm, friendly service. Look forward to dining with you again when we are next in Woolacombe.

Stayed again for New Year, what an excellent time we had, clean & warm room, excellent food, friendly staff who would go out of their way to get anything you needed & make you feel welcome. New Years eve they provided a disco with free buffett for all who came, locals & tourists who braved the wet weather.

New Years day breakfast, we were expecting continental, but we were totally suprised by Rob (the Landlord) providing cereal, toast & full English which went down very well indeed.
As for the locals, friendly as ever. Looking forward to our next visit in February.

Well done Rob, Eddie & staff keep it up.

Room Tip: The rooms are comfortable, warm and clean, tea & coffee facilities are provided, in the bathroom...

Went here for the first time on holiday a week ago. Went for a carvery, when we arrived the front of the building was falling apart, it was unclean and had moss growing all over, cracks in the walls, bit of roof felt flapping around. We carried on inside where we were greeted by who i only assume was the manager, he seated us very quickly. Everyone had the carvery so we did aswell, it was very nicely laid out but stone cold. We went and sat in the beer garden and all we could smell was marijuana from the kitchen staff i assume. The waitress was a very nice girl but incredibly young and inexperienced. After our meal we went up to the bar area for a drink, the man behind the bar was very rude and impolite. There was a huge crack in the veiling and water stains EVERYWHERE. Windows were broken and let in a very chilly wind, although the next morning two men were fixing them shut. The locals were very friendly and made us feel at home but that was the only positive side. Except one local who was throwing a dog ball around the pub as if it was a park! Would only visit again to see the locals, other than that avoid at all costs!

We popped on a Sunday evening for a quick meal, as it was close by to where we were staying.

Everyone seemed to be having carvery so we went for that too. To be honest it wasn't bad, but when I go out I like to eat something better than I could do at home, which this wasn't.

The desserts were poor and the service ok and the staff are friendly enough.

Tired, depressing, average food, poor service. Wouldn't even entertain the idea of going back - give it a miss.
