I stayed at the Ilchester Arms last Bank Holiday weekend and had a great time. Everyone was very friendly and made both my dog and I very welcome. Amazing walks in all directions either down to the coast or up onto the Downs. The food was great and the pub was always busy even though it had only recently reopened. Looking forward very much to returning next month.

Room Tip: As others have noted, the rooms are in the process of upgrading. They are perfectly adequate as they...

We were in abbottsbury for 2 days and stayed here for 1 nite. The staff are amazing and work really to make sure everything you are completely satisfied, nothing is to much trouble. The food is lovely and the Sunday roast is a MUST. We will definitely be back. Well done to all and keep up the great work.

We turned up looking like the bunch of hippies we are and were treated with deference and respect throughout. The service was matchless, the food outstanding. The milkshakes are to die for. Trust me...it was by consensus. Not overly pricy, and we loved the availability of a wide range of boardgames and books in the lounge bar. The kids meals were more than just sausage & chips. Much more. Absolutely worth a visit. Great atmosphere.

Abbotsbury is a typical Dorset village. Well kept and the allure of the Swans keep the visitors coming. The Ilchester Arms is in the main street and looks very welcoming from the outside. Indeed the welcome inside is just as warm. Extremely friendly and the renovation has quite a contemporary feel which is most in evidence in the conservatory. The garden at the back looks over the car park . The only surprise was the price of a cheeseburger and chips which was over thirteen pounds and half the size of a big mac. Whilst fully understanding the seasonal nature of revenues in Dorset, we thought the price was pretty steep The glasses were not very clean. I wouldnt give up on the Ilchester Arms, the new management are trying hard to upgrade and I wish them every success.

Hello Bubbabear174, thank you so much for taking to time to leave us a review.

We're really happy to hear that you received a warm welcome on your visit, both from the inside and outside of the property!

And many thanks for your feedback on the burger - we take enormous pride in the quality of our food and are actively supporting local farmers and suppliers for all produce, especially our meat. This always comes at a slight premium, however we are keeping all prices as low as possible... unfortunately this will never compete with McDonalds. However our burgers are 100% freshly handmade on site and hopefully you'll find them far more delicious!

We are sorry to hear that you didn't feel that your glass was clean. Please do mention anything like this to us whilst you're still a guest as we'll rectify this straight away. We hope that you'll come back and thank you again for the kind feedback. Best wishes, the Harrison family.

Recently taken over, the rooms are still a bit old fashioned and hot water to the shower was questionable. The ambience and the food were tremendous. A great selection of wines and cheeses. A very comfortable pub and as the rooms are modernised it will be a great place to stay.

Hello Rosemoore, thank you so much for taking to time to leave us a review. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the ambience and food - these are two things that are of tremendous importance to us.

We are very excited about the room renovations, which will hopefully take place later this year. We're currently offering all rooms at a reduced rate whilst they remain unrenovated, with the aim to keep them clean, tidy and cosy up until the re-furb. We're sorry to hear that you had hot water issues, we've had to fix the hot water supply to all rooms in the past couple of weeks as the old system was poor. Please do contacat us to let us know which room you stayed in and we can ensure that there are no further issues.

Many thanks again, we hope to see you in the future. Best wishes, the Harrison family.

What a transformation - Fantastic!

My family and I enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast here last weekend. The Sunday menu was great with something for everyone, we enjoyed the fish pie, adult & childs roast dinner. Very welcoming to families, our toddler enjoyed the garden almost as much as his dinner, a beautiful spot! We will be back!

We visited The Ilchester Arms many years ago and it was dirty, extremely run down and with rather dismissive staff. Upon seeing a few of the recent reviews we decided to pay it a second visit and what a transformation!

It's been taken over by a new family who introduced themselves when we arrived - the whole place has been renovated and looks fantastic. It still retains the original character and charm but is now clean, bright and really tastefully designed.

We started by having a drink on the sofas surrounding the fire, but decided to stay for lunch after we saw some delicious looking meals delivered to other tables. It was outstanding - I had home made fish pie and my partner had one of the best steaks he's ever had. They focus on fresh local ingredients which is important to us, and they had a good range of cheaper bar meals through to more comprehensive dinner options.

It's clearly a very new business, but they were so friendly, everyone was working their socks off to make it a pleasant experience for us, and the food was out of this world. It was comfortable and we ended up staying for hours.

Fyi apparently the bedrooms aren't yet renovated, but they seem to still have a lot of people requesting to stay and then told us that they're offering the rooms at a reduced rate whilst they're still basic. We've decided to go back in a couple of weeks time for a long weekend so that we can properly take advantage of the facilities and gorgeous location!

I really wish them all the best. They are working very hard to make this a success and I think it's a fantastic set up. We shall definitely be back.

Room Tip: Rooms are not yet renovated but are discounted in the meantime. Some rooms are apparently on the gro...
