Popped in here for quick bite to eat. Massively overpriced, over £10 for a tiny bowl of soup and a cheese sandwich. Ended up having to raid the wife's bag for snacks. Not a very good visit! No toilets and had to use the public ones down the road which isn't ver good at all!

We had excellent cups of ' Dorset' tea in a sweet little tea room in a lovely English village. we bought some of the tea (bags) to take home, there is also a well stocked souvenir shop and a free car park

If you are in the village of Abbotsbury, West Dorset, whether it's for the Botanical Gardens, Chesil Beach, the circular walk over the ridge or just browsing the artists' studios and general ambience of the place, you are making a wise decision to pop your head into the Old School House Tea Rooms.
This place sums up what a West Dorset welcome is all about. Forget your Monday - Friday 9-5, racing up and down motorways to meet clients; forget the visitor guide which tells you to move on to Bridport by 2pm for a flea market. Just stay a while and let Helen and her finely selected staff cater for you with home cooked food and genuine, relaxed hospitality.
Helen makes a darn fine cake. She also does wicked dumplings if you go for her lamb or beef stew. Her fish pie is as good as any you'll find in proper Cornish pubs and her food is locally sourced or even grown in her garden which rolls up the back of the tea rooms in a south facing spot. If you are lucky enough to be near her place around Christmas time, you might even get a peek at her legendary Christmas cake or her mother's epic Christmas puddings, soaked in luxurious amounts of brandy. Locals drive in from Weymouth and Dorchester to order her cakes and puddings so get them whilst they are still on the tea room shelf!
The tea room itself is decorated simply and spotlessly in red gingham check, with a view out to the tea garden at the back; a perfect place to restore a weary walker's feet after a day on the hills.
By the time you leave, you will feel like a friend. That's what Helen and her staff do best. Serve you amazing food and make you feel as if you are at home.
Enjoy!

We didn't really expect anywhere to be open on a chilly February Sunday at 4pm but The Old School house Tea Rooms were - and what's more gave us a great welcome. Very friendly and faultless service. Wonderful toasites and great cuppa. Cakes looked yummy but we had dinner booked! Watched the staff welcome other visitors, young and old, with charm. Good value, high quality food which is well presented. Good varied menu. The decor is gentle on the tired walker. Only regret was having to use the public loo next door although I entirely see why that should be and certainly won't stop us paying a return visit.

Stopped here for a cream tea during a trip through Abbotsbury. Delicious food and quick service. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. I felt that it was good value for money.
