“Innovative cuisine”
Reviewed 7 April 2014

The second visit to this excellent restaurant. A friendly welcome and good service. A really interesting menu with many dishes not often found, such as Nargis Kebab, (a sort of Indian scotch egg,for those who have yet to experience it!). Also signature dishes including Scallop bhuna and lots of fish. Superb relish tray accompanied poppadoms. My Jumbo King Prawn Shaslik (from the tandoor) was priced at £12.95 and arrived sizzling with what I would describe as butterflied langoustines and generous amounts of onion, pepper and tomato, and furthermore, a really fresh salad. Other dishes pronounced very good by my fellow diners were lamb pathia and a creamy Kurma. Tarka daal was excellently garlicky. No corkage charged for your alcohol. Do remember to bring cash or cheque, a small price to pay, so to speak, for a very enjoyable dining experience.

“Mother's Day lunch”
Reviewed 30 March 2014 via mobile

The first time I've had Indian for Sunday lunch, The staff are friendly and service was good. Not the best Indian I have had but OK, I had the chicken tikka shaslick which was tasty. Portions are generous and the garlic nan was lovely. You need to take your own alcoholic drinks but they sell soft drinks

“Good choice on menu”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

The staff make you really welcome, and there's a good choice on the menu; although it's not particularly cheap. If you're planning to eat in the restaurant you need to take your own beer and wine as its not licensed. You also need to take a cheque book or cash with you, as they don't accept payment by card. The restaurant could benefit from a bit more atmosphere, perhaps some background music. It offers a good takeaway service, and you get complimentary pappadoms with your orders.

“Something lacking”
Reviewed 3 January 2014

We only visited this restaurant to get a rather large take away order and the food was just about OK.
However the experience put us off visiting for a sit down meal!
Firstly they do not take any form of debit or credit cards, what restaurant in this day and age conducts its business like this!
Secondly, and I suppose it's due to licensing regs, they do not serve alcohol, or even invite you to bring your own like some other unlicensed establishments do.
The overall feel is rather uninviting to be honest, maybe they are just trading on being the only Indian restaurant in the area, sorry but a bit disapointing.

“Alas......”
Reviewed 15 December 2013

...there are several places in the UK with names beginning with 'B', like Birmingham and Bradford where you can get really good Indian food but, unfortunately, you can't include Beaminster in the list. My partner and I were the only customers in there to begin with (although a couple of people came to collect take-aways) but it was a Wednesday evening so I didn't think this ominous. It was fairly cold and my partner had to keep her coat on during the meal. The poppadums and condiments were ok and the service was prompt, pleasant and attentive but there, I'm afraid, the positive experiences ended. I had mixed kebabs to start and the sheek kebab was fairly tasteless while the chicken and lamb portions were dry and tough. This was repeated when the lamb tikka tawa arrived. I am used to tawas in Birmingham and they never resemble an orange-coloured soup with a few (7) lumps of mutton (it couldn't have been lamb!) dumped in it. My partner's dish was greasy and the accompanying bindi bhaji extremely average but at least the okra was reasonably fresh and not tinned. Neither of us finished our meals and we complained to a bemused waiter about the quality. He seemed curious about Indian restaurants in Biurmingham! I think some research on the part of his chef is called for! We shan't be returning.
