We have just returned from a weekend away at The West Bay Hotel, We have had a fantastic weekend and can't rate the place highly enough. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, with nothing being too much trouble - The food is divine, we ended up eating here both nights as it was so good - we were lucky enough to sample the seafood platter which was incredible. The room was spacious, clean , the shower was powerful and the biscuits on the hospitality tray were yummy ! .... Thanks to everyone who made this a wonderful weekend away ...we would definitely recommend it and will be back again.

We didn't stay here but booked to eat in the restaurant on the last night of our stay in West Bay. As we had eaten seafood on other nights during our stay we chose to eat meat dishes from the main menu - a mistake really as we should have gone for the specials as I think we would have been a lot more delighted instead we were left feeling a little let down. I had beef stroganoff which said it was made from beef fillet, brandy, cream and paprika served with rice - when it came it was dark brown in colour, the meat thickly sliced and definitely not fillet more like rump. The rice was from a packet - golden vegetable maybe? I ate it as it was not horrible but I wont be having that one again. My husband had a fillet steak which he liked - he is really fussy!! He also had the garlic sauce with it which he seemed to enjoy - so mixed reviews for the mains. For dessert - they had run out of the crumble so I had the chocolate and caramel fondant and my husband a tart with damsons and cherries and ice cream. My fondant was solid not runny though sauce had been poured over it - again it was OK. The pub is very well frequented and has a good atmosphere so I think if we did eat there again we will choose from the specials.

Visited here when friends ran this hotel some years ago and we were not disappointed, like others have said don't be put off by external appearance. The restaurant area was busy so others must know its very good, especially if you like fish dishes. The staff were friendly and efficient and there's plenty of free parking opposite.

Only ended up here because everywhere else was full as bank holiday weekend, but so glad we got a table. Delicious sunday roast and chocolate torte to die for. Staff very friendly and helpful. It is definately a hidden gem, opposite car park right on sea front.

We booked this hotel and when we pulled up outside wondered why....HOWEVER this is a little gem inside.
Room...spacious, well equipped with flat screen TV, coffee making and a little tin with biscuits in it. Quiet (ours overlooked the Beer Garden).
Bathroom...huge bathroom with walk in shower. Basic body was, clean towels.
The pub...very welcoming with a mix of tourists and locals. Food looked good (we didn't eat here this time).
Friendly staff, reasonable price, good location in and free carpark.

Visited west bay, and called in the pub for a drink, liked what we saw so went back in the evening for a meal. It was very busy, but we were fitted in. The service was quick and staff were friendly. The food was wonderful, we both had sea bass which was cooked to perfection. We will have no hesitation in returning next time we visit.

We booked the West Bay Hotel for a couple of nights on the recommendation of friends and were not disappointed.

Like other reviewers, I was a bit surprised to find it was a pub with accommodation above and again, don't be put off by exterior which is a bit scruffy and could do with a lick of paint!

In fact, when we arrived, we were meeting friends on the beach and parked in the public car part (adjacent to the hotel's car park) because I didn't recognise the exterior from the website photo.

When I went to check in, I then proceeded to drive all over town trying to find the place (Satnav was no help!) only to end up back where I had started! So, not a great start (and the young girl who answered the phone when I called driving around trying to locate the place was not greatly knowledgeable but in fairness she has only just started working there).

So, as you can imagine, I wasn't in a great mood when we did eventually arrive but we were given a very warm welcome and shown to our room which was lovely

Enormous bed and so comfortable I slept like a log
My son had a single bed (proper bed not rolaway) and also slept really well.
Only drawback was that our (private) bathroom was not en-suite but down the hall but this is the only room that is not en-suite & to be honest, it wasn't really an issue.
They could probably do with just a hand basin in the room.

All the amenities were provided including lovely bathrobes.
In addition, there was a great window seat (who doesn't love these) where you could sit and look towards the beach and cliffs.

Breakfast was excellent. I don't eat meat & often struggle with hotel breakfast but scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was offered as standard on the menu which is unusual but delicious.

The location is really excellent and the price very reasonable (£100 per night).
I only realised how reasonable when recently we visited Weymouth, which is only just down the road and paid £140 per night for a 'hotel' that was so disgusting that we turned round and left.

West Bay itself is charming and like going back in time. I climbed the cliff one morning ~ what a view ~ then walked back into town and with a coffee & newspaper spent a relaxing hour sitting by the harbour just watching the world go by.

Would definitely return ~ its a gem!

Room Tip: Choose a front facing room for view of the beach and cliffs
