“Excellent Saturday Evening Meal.”

Great food, well prepared in a time ley fashion. Good atmosphere. Reasonable pricing (for London) with food choices to suit all. Would come again/recommend.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2014 via mobile

I went here for a meal for two on recommendation from a friend. It did not disappoint! Very friendly and knowledgable staff. The food was excellent quality and very good value for money and simply the best steak I have ever had. Will Definitely be going there again. 5 star :)

“Unassuming Pub, Awesome Food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2014 via mobile

There has perhaps never been such a case of 'don't judge a book by its front cover' as in the case of The Half Moon in Melplash... The most unassuming frontage is actually host to some of the most superb food available in the area, and behind the walls of this old thatched pub there is a culinary labour of live going on in the kitchen that needs to be tasted to be believed!

The menu sells itself as pub classics with a twist, with some more complex dishes as well. Both me and my dining partner went for the scallops to start, they're a South West staple and say a lot about a kitchen. The Half Moons are accompanied by a chorizo jam, a black pudding beignet and apple sauce/apple, all presented beautifully and unpretentiously on a round white plate, cooked perfectly it set the tone for the rest of the night.

For mains, I had fish of the day (haddock) and chips, beautiful light batter and soft flaky fish, beyond perfect. My dining partner had 'chicken in a basket', herb and spiced chicken with baby gem lettuce, mayo and mash, a new dish but one she enjoyed.

We shared a chocolate and Thyme terrine, which we were kindly supplied with an extra large piece (at no extra charge), very kind of the chef or waitress!

All this was washed down with the beautiful Moko Black, a ridiculously sweet and easy drinking wine with almost overwhelming grapefruit notes.

There service throughout was perfect, our jovial barman and super efficient waitress being present but not cloying.

A perfect meal and I can't recommend the place enough!

“Can't rate highly enough”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2014 via mobile

Just visiting the area and decided to go out to have some dinner. Arrived at this lovely pub early on Saturday evening, and asked for a table for four. Although evidently heavily booked, the helpful fellow behind the bar (Mark) gave us a table straight away. Service by the way was excellent from the team, cheerful & confident, and very warm. Promptly ordered and ate a two course meal, which was genuinely outstanding food. Food was excellent, well cooked and assembled, and tasted fabulous. Honestly can't praise this pub enough, and accordingly highly recommend to all

“Excellent food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2014

We booked a table at the a Half Moon on Sunday as we are new to the area and thought it looked nice. We were not disappointed they were short staff due to illness but had our table ready for us with no wait for drinks and taking our order the 2 people working were rushed off their feet but the food arrived and was excellent well presented and nice and hot. They were very attentive to everyone with a good service. Will definitely be going back.
