I went to Bridport on Wednesday morning to visit their street market for the first time. It stretches along the main streets and there are 100+ stalls. The range of things on sale is extensive and I spent more that 3 hours looking at all the various stalls. The market attracts lots of visitors, especially on a nice warm and sunny day.

I'd remembered Dorchester's Wednesday market with affection from a visit a few years ago but compare it with Bridport on a Saturday and it's very much in the shade. Our week's rental in Lyme Regis was Friday to Friday; we needed to get provisions for the week and with two decent supermarkets - Morrisons and Waitrose- Bridport seemed to be a good idea. We had no idea that the market would be this good. Not only were there two roads of stalls, offering a range of foods, antiques and bric a brac, plants, clothing, more utilitarian items and elements of a good country farmers market. In other streets there were charity stalls and the whole place was really vibrant----- and then, after a quick cup of coffee, we were well placed for a trot down to West Bay and a stroll along the beach and around the harbour.

In the Bridport area on a Saturday morning with 50 OAP's? They will love Bridport Market. Easy parking at the bus station. Flat walk along the stall lined streets and a few cafe's as well. Perfect

This is a lovely market - well worth the visit. Loads of stalls with vendors selling all sorts of things e.g. bric a brac, clothes, books, furniture, art, leather goods, plants, food, cds, toys. We also went into St Marys Church Hall which had Arts and Crafts stalls selling lots of cute gifts - I bought our nieces a knitted owl key ring each. In the church itself there was a miniature steam engine and track - great for little boys! At the top of South Street a brass band played all morning and we were lucky with the weather as the day before had been beating it down with rain.

We enjoyed walking among the variety of vendors offering everything from clothes to old tools, from food to trinkets. We were impressed with the values and had so much fun people-watching, too.
