“Best night's sleep for years!”
Reviewed 24 July 2013

Even on a hot and humid July evening during the recent heatwave (hotel had left some great fans in the rooms - Propello - highly recommend!), we slept the best we have done in years! 6 ft bed in room 205, very comfy matress and pillows. Room overlooks Courtyard which was busy in the summer eves, but was always closed no later than 10pm, so didn't affect sleeping and we were able to leave the windows open all night and not be disturbed.

Room was out on a limb from the main hotel, so particularly quiet and I would recommend this highly as a quiet room.

Staff were very friendly and smiling and looked happy in their work. Unfortunaltey service was a bit tardy - wrong bill, wrong orders, forgetting stuff at every occasion we ate and drank there over 4 days. Also, staff appeared a bit scruffy in their black uniforms, one waitress had threadbare trousers and shoes on and I noticed several people comment on this. A shame, as she was a lovely waitress and very helpful and cheerful, but she didn't do the image of the hotel much good, neither did the scruffy barman in the Venner Bar. My advise to the Bull, if you want to do the relaxed look, take a look at the staff at the Pig Hotel in Brockenhurst.

The Venner bar in teh hotel is an old style bar, very cosy and a nice place for pre-post dinner drinks. Altho have your Pimms elsewhere - £8 at this hotel for a glass! I can understand the cocktails at this price, but not a standard Pimms that was £3.95 in a far nicer place elsewhere on the same day. However, very generous canapes served on Friday eve's in the bar and the bar was away from all the rooms so no noise from there.

Rooms were spotlessly clean although hallways looked a bit uninviting and a smelt a little stale.

Breakfast were very good indeed, as was all the food served. Well presented, beautiful quality ingredients and I liked the choice to have more relaxed and lighter option of just pizzas or pies (and great salads) in the Stable restaurant at the back of the hotel.

Overall, I would definately stay here again and woudl recommend to anyone planning on going to the area. One drawback was a little pricey on the room tariff for what they offer.

Our favourite places nearby were River Cottage HQ for Sunday lunch and the Hive Beach Cafe on the waters edge of Burton Bradstock - fantastic quality fish and meat served overlooking the beach and great prices.

Room Tip: Room 205 - very quiet, overlooking Courtyard at rear. No other room noise heard at all - which is a...

Instant coffee in the bedroom, concentrated orange juice and stale bread for breakfast. Not what I was expecting for the price of 200 per night considering there ' s no gym or fitness centre either. Poor service at the restaurant too .

Spending one night in this charming Dorset town to attend a wedding, The Bull was a superb choice. Warm and welcoming with interesting well furnished rooms, we had a great evening with family and friends. First in the bar, then The Stable sampling pizzas and pies in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Following the early morning wedding we returned for the wedding breakfast - full choice from eggs prepared in a number of ways to kippers or a traditional English. The decor in this hotel is really interesting, the surroundings comfortable and welcoming and the staff relaxed, friendly and professional.

Room Tip: We only had experience of one double room with a four poster bed - ask when booking and the staff ar...

Me and my partner have stayed at The Bull previously and we loved it. Each room is unique and gorgeously decorated, the bars have great cocktails and the staff are so helpful.

However, this time was even more special for us. My partner planned to and then later proposed to me whilst staying at The Bull!

The staff were involved with helping him to pull off the perfect proposal for me- they even managed to source an amazing bunch of flowers for me upon our return!

The weekend was perfect for us and the staff and our whole experience at the bull was part of that- we cannot thank them all enough.

The bull is a fantastic hotel, delicious food, amazing bedrooms in a gorgeous part of the world. We would highly recommend it to all- we could not fault it!

Thanks again,
Megan and Chris

Stayed at The Bull Hotel for two nights as part of a wedding party. The hotel was totally full and bursting to capacity yet despite this I received superb customer service. The first night I encountered a problem with ventilation in my room. The night staff were very understanding and did their best to make us feel more comfortable. The following morning the manager came to find us and offered apologies and a resolution to ensure the rest of our stay would be comfortable. I have nothing but praise for this hotel, which manages to deliver the special touches whilst being child friendly, stylish and cosy.

The Bull was very welcoming and the location good. Laundry problems meant no bathrobes and the shower was slow draining and difficult to get hot. This was explained later and another water pump was being installed. Otherwise the room was very well appointed and the Neal's Yard products supplied good, though no conditioner or hand cream..
Restaurant food was very well cooked and served hot from the kitchen. Thursday night bream was a highlight as was the perfect eggs Benedict royale ordered at breakfast, though the kipper served was rather meagre..and singular..though described as kippers...
The Otter Ale served at the bar was excellent. The staff were good and attentive, the vibe is laid back.
The Bull will be on the radar for a return visit. Do not miss the Leakers bakers opposite and Snooks the Bridport institution hat shop down the street.

I've long wanted to go to The Bull so was looking forward to this trip. In some ways I wasn't disappointed because there are some great things about this hotel: friendly staff, great food, and incredible beds, to name just three - it's the best nights sleep I've had in ages. And the excellent glazing and curtains meant that despite a busy road, our rooms were still quiet and dark.

The Bull also has a restaurant, a pizza place and a cocktail bar - great for a hotel this size - and free wifi, hurrah! It's such a bugbear of mine, being charged for wifi in hotels.

Be warned though, Bridport isn't the loveliest location, although this isn't the Bull's fault - I had imagined it as a pretty seaside town and it really isn't but there's plenty of beautiful surrounding countryside so I don't suppose it would matter if you had a car and could travel. Or if you were just there for romance, that would be fine too.

My room was great (a four poster double with seating space) but my friend's room was a bit tired and quite a bit smaller (at £140 b&b) so she was less impressed. Toiletries are Neals Yard organic, which is nice but there is a note next to them (it's polite, much better than Cowley Manor's stroppy little missive) saying "don't take them or you'll be charged." Which I suppose is fine and clear and if you want to reduce your use of little plastic bottles then this is one way to do it.

In summary: great food, smiley staff, sublime bedding.

If it was somewhere other than Bridport I'd be going again.
