We discovered Newlands Holiday Park 3 yrs. ago when we stayed there in a touring caravan. On our first visit to reception to enquire about pitch pricing & availability we were instantly impressed with how friendly & knowledgeable Susie on reception proved to be

We have since progressed to a static caravan & now three years down the line we cannot speak highly enough of all of the staff working here,
Having got to know the owners we have only ever found them honest & fair & they work diligently to ensure a good level of service to all visitors.

We are also struck with the professional & conscientious attitude of every member of staff many of whom have become almost like friends. It would seem that they are hand-picked for their polite & friendly approach to visitors to the site
.
Steve the bar manager is very experienced having run his own pub & we have noticed his ability to keep tabs on all aspects of customer relations ensuring that diners are well looked after. He is well respected by all his bar staff who work well together. His partner Wendy provides many homely touches to the whole experience.
All in all a welcoming & friendly family site.

What a lovely, clean site with great amenities. Great food, very helpful and friendly staff, good entertainment, this is a gem of place. Have to commend all staff and especially the bar manager Steve and Wendy whom really go that extra mile. We stayed in a static caravan which was also spotlessly clean also close to Charmouth beaches (walk only 8 mins) great day for fossil hunting. Really a great place to stay for week or weekend. Great all rounder site for touring caravans, tents, static caravans also has wooden lodges. Very welcoming will definitely be back very soon.

Just returned from a 7 night stay at Newlands, 2 adults and 2 children with a tourer caravan. Firstly be careful with the sat nav when coming from the north as it routes you along a single track road and not the A35. Beautiful scenery but not with caravan in tow.

On arrival turn into the site and turn left into the car park, then stop. There is no signs at all indicating where reception is or just to stop and book in. We saw three new arrivals looking as confused as us.

A chap driving a golf buggy took us to our pitch. Very helpful and welcoming. A dog had been left in a caravan next to our pitch and began to bark as you would expect. He showed immediate concern and went off to locate the owner.

The pitch was premium with a drain for waste electric hook up and mains water. It was on the first tier on the hill, affording a decent view of the opposite hill side, but also directly into the front windows of the caravans lower and opposite. The pitches are relatively small and hard standing, rock pegs only with a decent hammer for your awning.

The first and last thing you will notice about Newlands is the road noise. The A35 is a busy road and the noise is constant and extremely intrusive.

The toilet block is dated and in need of a refresh. They are not very clean at all. The same bits of rolled tissue and other associated debris were pushed around during the week. On one occasion I walked in on the cleaners and saw one lady just spray into the cubicle from outside. Once cleaned, I went back in, only to feel an intense burning above my left eye. I had a chemical burn. No ordinary anti bacterial spray.

As other reviews, the showers are frustrating. It could be so good with large accessible shower cubicles with plenty of space to change but they are either scolding hot or cold. Not good at all for youngsters.
The location of showers around the urinals is just a poor design with the smell of the toilets emanating above the smell of shower gel.

The shop is adequately stocked relatively expensive but with such a captive audience, expected.

The pools.
Inside pool is bath warm. Remember your goggles. The chlorine is very strong and you would take the option of rubbing onions in your eye, rather than go back in. The jacuzzi is colder than the pool and simply isn't worth having.

The outside pool is breath taking. No really it is so cold, it is a challenge to breath. There is a slide that requires you to hurl yourself down to gain any momentum. It is without question the coldest pool I have swum in. Wetsuits should be mandatory, the sea was warmer.

The play area again could be so good. The lawn area is well maintained but some of the equipment is broken or missing.

The bar area is clean but again expensive. The pool tables were always taken, more of a case of bad luck I think for us with that usual family lining up 9 pound coins.

We didn't eat in the bar at Newlands. There is a pub at Chideock, the George which offered superb value for money.

Apart from the road noise, the site was extremely quiet with very little noise from other people, just the occasional dog barking which is expected and one infernal car alarm but hey ho.

The walk to the beach is achievable. I think the 15 minutes was done power walking in joggers and nike's and not with deck chairs and kids. If you can take bikes it is a very pleasant real world 15mins with plenty of railings to padlock the bikes when your get to the beach at Charmouth.

Charmouth is a fabulous family friendly place to go. Pony Trekking at nearby Bidlake riding stables was great fun, Lyme Regis, just perfect. Newlands was a good base and has potential, just didn't deliver for us.

Nice friendly team on the reception desk got our camping break off to a good start. Our Pitch was not quite level but the facilities on site are good and the fresh pastries baked on site were yummy....there's only so much bacon you can take! There was not much in the way of evening entertainment for the nights that we were there but the bar is nice and the kids enjoyed the dressing up box! It's not spotless but perfectly adequate for us campers!

We picked Newlands to camp as it appeared to be quiet, with pools for the kids and not overly commercial with mainly good reviews. We camped for 3 nights and the pitch was faultless, weather fab and space great, an absolute sun trap! Clean park outside, but toilet block dated and although toilets regularly cleaned and mopped overall could have been cleaner, vents in showers thick with dust, walls of toilets needed a good clean!! My husband was tracking the squashed daddy long legs that met his fate on the day we arrived and it was still there in the shower when we left!
We picked the site, having never been, mainly for the pools to use after a day out for our kids, 10 and 12. We never got to use them though as after our arrival the whole camp went into shut down with notes attached to doors stating that there had been a few reported cases of sickness, so the pools had to close. This then followed the whole camp with all public areas...no food, restaurant, pools, play areas and sign after sign on toilets stating that we need to wash hands with soap and hot water.....as well as the two small anti bac bottles!! Which disappeared after a day! During our 4 day stay we could not use any facilities at all....and we were all awaiting some horrendous illness to descend on us!!
It made us not want to be there really!
Sleeping was pretty tricky as the road near the camp was very noisy all night and for some reason there was a continual generator noise, don't think it was anything in the camp, but the general area had lots of environmental noise for a Dorset seaside holiday, I suppose it's a done deal there would be seagulls, but blimey they were noisy and were dive bombing our tent!
We are Dorset based so are not far from home, but I don't think i'd go again. I feel sorry for the people who were turning up all weekend to a camp that was in shutdown and who had paid lots to be there...with absolutely nothing going on at all!
If there was an outbreak of sickness there was no evidence of any deep cleaning...we left on the Monday morning after a long weekend of a closed camp!
We can't comment on any staff there as we didn't see any as it was shut!
We didn't take our dogs, but we are glad we didn't, we saw many but the facilities for dogs were not good. The weather was very hot, so those were saw were literally sweltering. In front of our tent there was some shade during the afternoon, the cars parked there belonged to cleaning staff/grounds people who appeared to have dogs shut in cars. We were drawn to a car that had two beautiful doggies in the boot because they were crying and barking all afternoon! It was too hot for any dog to be in a car!
The lady at work kept coming back to see them, but never let them out. The car next door had a dog in all day.
Overall we made our own fun and had a good time, but I wouldn't return.
