We do a lot of caravaning around Dorset and Wales but once a year we take the grand children away with us. This year we chose Monkton Wyld and found the site excellent and the weather wonderfully hot all week. We had a pitch near the main entrance which was secluded and quiet and not far from the toilet block which was handy for the children. It seemed that this block had been refurbished and the design was brilliant with the furnishings better than most 4 star hotels we have visited.
I do agree with a previous reviewer that the shop could have more food on sale and would be better by opening at 8am. However this did not distract from the great time we had. The staff were very pleasant ,efficient and could not be more helpful.
Charmouth which is about 2 miles away has a very good mini market which stocks most items of food and the local bakery sells fresh bread from 8am each morning.
We were so impressed that we will be returning next year with, hopefully, the hot weather we had this year.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Monkton Wyld Camping, Caravanning & Static Holiday Caravans offers idyllic Camping and Caravanning in West Dorset. Straddling the Dorset/Devon border only three miles from the coastal village of Charmouth and the historic harbour town of Lyme Regis; centre of the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. The park lies in 25 acres of beautifully landscaped and carefully maintained grounds; over the last 17 years we have focused on ensuring that the park complements the rich landscape of the West Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Shrubs, trees and flowers abound while mature oaks spread across surrounding farmland that forms the rolling countryside. We have also enhanced the site by the careful planting of native woodland to divide the grounds into several separate small paddocks which add to the general atmosphere of peace and quiet. ... more less
