If you're looking for a quiet hotel (no tedious music or loud televisions in the lounge) and a great location, then this is the place. The service is excellent, the staff are friendly (and smile) and the food is stunning in the restaurant (especially dinner). Corfe Castle is impressive and of course you have the Swanage Railway next to the hotel if you like steam trains!

Nearby Swanage is a bit dreary so steer clear. Take a trip to Lulworth Cove and walk the costal path west; beautiful!

We have visited this hotel a couple of times for afternoon tea, after walking in the Purbecks. I have to say that although the building is lovely and very interesting, the actual meal served was very disappointing. We only had a pot of tea and in one instance a scone with jam and butter and the other we had cake, but on both occasions I was horrified to see that an establishment of that quality- serves bought- in cakes.
The scone was appalling and the cake was that lovely yellow slab fruit cake that you buy in cheap shops. It was horrible and despite the fact that I would love to return there to enjoy the ambience I will not bother.

Mortons is the nicest hotel anyone could wish to stay in. It is absolutely spotless and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful without being irritating. There is a lovely relaxed feeling about the hotel and one feels able to unwind totally either by the pond or in the beautiful wood paneled drawing room in the knowledge of not being hassled by anyone.
The food is delicious and beautifully cooked and presented.
We had a lovely stay and thoroughly recommend it!

I was torn between a two star or three star rating but settled on a generous three.
The good points are:-
The position is first class and the parking is easy.
The staff are friendly, except perhaps for the rather diffident young lady at the reception desk.
There are two evening dining options, the main restaurant and the lounge where lighter meals were available which we used on three occasions each of which was fine. Both are exceptionally quiet - as is the lounge - so, in our opinion, they would benefit from very low suitable background music.
We did not experience any noise during the night - perhaps lucky with the neighbours.
The towels were very good, the water was always hot and the rooms were clean.

Now the bad:-
As mentioned in a number of other reviews, the rooms are dark and dated and the old brown stained pine furniture looked cheap and is in poor condition with missing drawer knobs and, in our case, ones which fell off.
We are widely travelled and the so-called Dacomb room was truthfully most uninviting room we have stayed in and frankly at £145 per night B&B is far too expensive. All four Dacomb rooms are specially designed for the disabled (which we are not) which is very commendable and although they are quite large, 'our' room was completely devoid of any pictures or wall coverings of any description giving it a very bare look. There was a small analogue TV very high on the wall near the ceiling but only 4 channels were available.
As the rooms are large enough, why there is only a 4'6" so-called double bed in this day and age I cannot fathom. The mattress had a pronounced dip in the centre and the foot of the bed was higher than the head.
We moved to a different room in the main house which was better but, here again, although we had a couple of pictures on the wall and a flat screen TV, the furniture was the same cheap brown stained pine.

A substantial investment is needed in this establishment to replace the furnishings to justify the prices - I think seeing the wallpaper pattern through one coat of emulsion paint is an indication of what needs to be done.

Lastly, The Bankes Arms just down the road has a much better atmosphere in the dining area, excellent food (French Chef when we were there) and the prices are more reasonable.

Room Tip: Avoid the Dacomb rooms

We stayed one night at this hotel in march and ate in the restaurant. The staff are very helpful and welcoming and the room was most comfortable. The restaurant has a special atmosphere, in fact the whole place feels very special.
