“Good set lunch”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

The Plat du jour consists of 2 courses for £10.95 or 3 courses for an extra £3. The food was well cooked and tasty and good value for the money: however 4 bottles of excellent Italian wine and a round of drinks pushed the bill to £35 a head, including tip, which was perhaps a bit steep. There is a substantial menu of starters from £5.50 to £7.95 and mains from £10.50 to £17.95. Service is good, friendly and unobtrusive and they didn't throw us out despite lingering longer than we should have done. Definitely worth a visit

“A real Jewel”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

Although we had lived in Dorset for nearly 5 years, for some reason we had never been to The Ship Inn. we decided to go for a Sunday lunch, and were very pleased we did. The place has a lovely ambiance and decor. The landlord is very welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious and very reasonable. We enjoyed it so much we wanted to eat there on Christmas Day, but, alas they are closed,so instead we have booked in for a meal on Christmas Eve instead. and know it will become a regular haunt of ours. Highly recommended!

“Excellent accommodation and restaurant”
Reviewed 7 May 2013

My husband and I stayed at this old coaching inn, built in 1750, for the bank holiday weekend in early May 2013. We were warmly welcomed by Gavin and shown to a lovely large room (room 5) which was freshly decorated, restful and very clean. We particularly enjoyed having a settee at one end of the room and a comfortable bed near the bay window at the other end, with a superb large fireplace in between. There was plenty of hot water, fluffy towels, and tea/coffee/hot chocolate provided along with packets of biscuits. The food here is superb! Excellent freshly cooked breakfast where nothing is too much trouble. The evening meal was exceptionally good. We would detour out of our way to stay here or eat here again.

“Small menu but good food”
Reviewed 22 March 2013

We've eaten here twice and the food was good both times. The choice is not large but that is generally a good thing. The offerings are ambitious and should get even better. You won't be sorry if you eat here. Quite pricey though.

“Traditional pub with an enterprising menu”
Reviewed 2 January 2012

Had a good meal here just before Christmas-with an inventive chef and good sized portions. Nicely located on the A30 with easy parking opposite.
