“Lovely guest house, excellent service, good atmosphere - brilliant!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2009

Very comfortable, well furnished room with huge en suite (Room 1). Individually catered for at breakfast time using (as the website says) local produce and eggs laid by owner's hens. Range of breakfast 'types' available, including cereals, fresh fruit, fuit juice, home made jam, continental, full English - or any combination of these.
Brian and Anita's local knowledge was invaluable - especially the tips on 'free'/low cost parking and good places to eat out!
The garden is beautiful and well tended, with plenty of space to sit out during the evening and enjoy the views.
Even though the house is on a main road, we were not disturbed by any traffic noise. It is well placed for access to nearby towns and attractions (as described on website).

We were made to feel extremely welcome; not like paying guests - more like friends of the family and would definitely go back again.

From our arrival to departure Anita and Brian at Holmebridge House were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Their local knowledge was invaluable and we received useful advice on what to see in the area. The breakfasts were superb (particularly the full English!) with home made jams available and local/home grown produce used where possible. Quality food. The room was exactly as we'd seen it on the internet; it was clean, spacious and well appointed with a lovely modern en-suite attached. Every day the hospitality tray was refilled with a good selection of tea, coffee, milk, bottled water and biscuits. The TV had all the Freeview channels available. On two occasions we saw deer roaming in the field behind the house, which is in a lovely setting. Holmebridge is on the A352 and has plenty of off-road private parking. It is well situated for the many lovely places around the area. Dorset is well known for its beauty and scenery and we weren't disappointed with what we saw. A stunning coastline and beautiful villages throughout the whole area. The nearest town, Wareham, has a good selection of eating out places and we weren't disappointed with any of our evening meals. We tried Indian, Chinese, Italian and English and all were good. I think our favourite part of the holiday has got to be the coastline and spectacular views. The particular favourites were the views of Chesil Beach from Portland, the walk from Lulworth Cove to Durdle Door and the ride through the lovely Isle of Purbeck on the Swanage Railway. So, what didn't we like? Having thought long and hard we can't come up with anything we really didn't like, apart from having to leave and come home. We hope to be back in Dorset again next year and look forward to being well looked after again by Anita and Brian at Holmebridge House.

Stayed in Room 2. It faces the road. Even though the windows are double glazed we still had to wear earplugs as the road was noisy. I live in London and I still found it noisy!! BEcuase we couldn't open the window due to the noise, the room was really stuffy. The first night I only had about 3 hours sleep. This meant I was half an hour late for the 0830 breakfast! Not only did the owner come and knock on the bedroom door and tell us "breakfast is at 0830 not 0900!" but when I got down there, I tried to make amends by saying how fantastic the bacon was (it really was!!) and he grumped back "I don't know how its still amazing, it's been cooking for half an hour!" How totally rude and patronising... I come away to have a relax and a lie-in not to be told that breakfast is at 0830 on the dot or ELSE!!

Having said that, the countryside around is nice and it's easy to get to lots of places of interest from the B&B. The owners were helpful with where to visit on the second day, once we had proved we could get up on time (the first morning he ignored us and spoke only to the other couple staying there).

Spacious room with a spacious en-suite bathroom described by the owner as a `loo with a view`. And what a view! A huge field bordered by woods from which the deer emerge to graze in the field. We didn't see any whilst we were there but someone else may get lucky.
The breakfast was great - well cooked and plenty of it. The owner is friendly but unobtrusive.
There are plenty of good places to eat nearby. We had a meal in the Old Granary in Wareham on our first night there. Brilliant food and hardly any mark up on the wine list making for a really good value meal. The staff are really friendly and we would certainly go back there again - lovely location too - right by the river.
On our second night we had dinner in Kemps. Just up the road from the B/B. Very good value meal at £26, three courses plus coffee. Unfortunately they are closing for refurbishment but will be open again in the Spring.
Holmebridge House is right on a fairly busy road but you would never know it. The double glazing works very well. We had a great night's sleep and our room was right at the front. They also have their own car park.

Just stayed at a B&B in dorset called HolmeBridge house in Wareham, and have a great time, the breakfast was lovely and the room we stayed in was very romantic (right up in attic). The owners chilled my bottle of Champagne and the girlfriend was very impressed. Lovely people and lovely area. Really recommended.
