We stayed in this lovely pub for a couple of nights; one of which was the night of the 'great storm'.
We had a fab time; the food and the service was excellent (particularly Richard at breakfast time); the room was good; the staff were really welcoming and helpful and had good knowledge about the area. Good value for money and the fact we were only visited by a storm and not any ghosts of former smugglers was a bonus!!!!! The pub is in a beautiful place and is well worth visiting.

Entirely agree with "Very Disappointed" on the 14 October 2013. How wrong we were too, to visit the Smugglar's Inn again. The Front of House staff were friendly, willing and listened to our concerns but they were LET DOWN HORRIBLY by the sub-standard catering. The food was utterly without flavour, the vegetables were old and badly overcooked and there was even some uncooked meat at the edge of one of the dishes. The Smuggler's Inn needs an immediate overhaul of its kitchen and a clearing out of the staff who allow such sub-standard food to pass. An unacceptable disgrace.

We went here for a meal as we were staying just up the road and had read such good reviews. It was so cosy and welcoming when we arrives and we were seated very quickly and our drink order taken. The service was excellent even though it was very busy and our food was delicious, especially the desserts. We were gutted we did not visit it until the last night of our holiday or we would have definately gone again.

We went for our evening meal two nights running and also popped in for a coffee one afternoon. The food was good and so was the service. It was lovely that it was dog friendly. Great value for money! Well worth a visit :)

We found this Inn by default, thought about staying the night, went on into Weymouth and decided to go back. We were very pleased that we did. Room 6, though not the largest in the world, was well appointed and more than adequate. We had an excellent evening meal and the breakfast was really first class. What we liked was the friendliness of the Staff, Barbie, Mike, the assistant manager and the young man from Derbyshire could not have been more helpful, pleasant and accommodating. We are definitely planning a return visit and will make a point of taking the various walks along the coast from here.

We have just returned home from a long weekend in Weymouth, we try to incorporate our stay with a visit to the Smugglers Inn, on this visit we had some friends with us whom we had told that this was the place to eat - how wrong - standards have dropped drastically since our last visit in June - we were looking forward to having a Sunday roast beef, unfortunately all the beef had been sold, leaving just the chicken, we asked if the chicken was Free Range and locally sourced, the answer was NO - one of our party asked if the fish was locally sourced, answer again NO - it comes from New Zealand we were informed!! apparently the fish tasted similar to cod and was called Hokey - why when fish is landed locally? they list in their menu that Tanglefoot beer is used in the batter - but do not identify where the fish is sourced!! 'Hall and Woodhouse' should reprimanded over their clever wording on the menu -
In our opinion (my husband is a retired publican and our son owns a Free Range Butchers shop and catering business) the chicken had been frozen was dry, stringy, tasteless and over cooked - anther of our party had the gammon, again dry and overcooked, my husband chose the smoked haddock with potato wedges (3 potato wedges in fact!) Our waiter was sympathetic and deducted the chicken from our bill, we were given a discount voucher off of our next visit, although accepted I doubt very much if we will return to this picturesque pub, in fact we left and went to another pub for our dessert and coffee, the pub was called the Spice Ship and decided to return for a meal which we would recommend - fresh local produce used!

Stopped off here on our way to Lulworth. the beer was nice and the staff friendly but the food was ordinary and I could scarcely see my salad accompaniment to my baguette !
I have known this pub for many years and it is fine if you accept it for what it is but may nicer places around.
