“The bistro is very poor”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

We went to Shell Bay on Tuesday for lunch. Very disappointed. The restaurant looked fab and menu was lovely. But as we only want light snack we opted for the bistro. The setting was lovely the tall dark haired waitress was excellent but unfortunately that was as good as it got. The bistro staff were at best disinterested and at worse rude. The food was terrible, the only requirement of the 'chef' was to be successfully open a bag of salad let it go limp and place it onto two tin plates accompanied by two sets of wooden cutlery. The prawn and crayfish salad consisted of a pile of limp salad leaves with a few frozen prawns and crayfish tails (not particularly good quality, dare I say cheap!) placed on top, the lime dressing was ok. My husband had a Greek salad which consisted of the same limp salad leaves with a few (4) lumps of feta cheese. We shared a plate of calamari which was breaded in rings (I think frozen) and deep fried until almost burnt with a nasty after taste of burnt fat. We would have liked to raise our comments to the staff but unfortunately nobody was interested enough to ask if everything was ok. It wasn't busy whilst we were there so no excuse. A real shame as a fab location but poor staff letting it down. We won't return.

“Perfect waterside sunset location with delicious seafood dishes”
Reviewed 14 July 2014 via mobile

We have been here a few times before and really love the enviable beach front location perfect for catching the sunset. The atmosphere is low key and welcoming with a very beachy feel. The menu is unashamedly seafood based but with a lovely variety on offer. Tonight we were particularly impressed by the scallops and chorizo starter and tiger prawn curry. Our only slight disappointment was the cheese and biscuits for after - bit boring and bland and we would have liked to see some local cheeses and chutneys. However the other desserts of brûlée and brownie we're delicious. A really nice touch is the cucumber in the table water -very refreshing- and the rose prosecco is our favourite yet. We definitely recommend this restaurant.

“Great fish, lovely view”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

This has really raised its game over the last few years. We had a lovely meal overlooking Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island. The weather was good enough that they opened the sliding glass doors for a beautiful view of the sunset over Purbeck.Wine list good, if pricey.

“Lunch & Dinner forget anywhere else!”
Reviewed 8 July 2014 via mobile

This place has fantastic seafood! Best lobster since Hawaiian Kona Lobster! Best scallops since New Zealand. Amazing fresh local Brown Crab! Great menu, worth the cost and great setting and friendly staff. Really this is better than any other Poole restaurant including Storm!

“charm by the sea”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

Arriving at 1300 on a Friday without reservation our foursome was immediately made very welcome by a lovely young local girl named (we think) Jo, who spoiled us throughout our lunch with ready service and smiles. Everything we asked for was delivered promptly and courteously.
Calamari, a huge portion of haddock, and an entire Brown Crab were all delicious. A major refit is taking place outside but it failed to spoil a very good lunch. Jo also gave us a potted guide to the buildings across the bay. I did not pay but the prices looked reasonable except perhaps the crab at £19, but who cares, it was fresh and tasty. Decent wines available by the glass. Music playing but not intrusive.
Will certainly return.
