“Stunningly good experience”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

This hotel has got all the important things right I think [context; just a one night stay]. The people - some seriously good staff, understated but accommodating. The bar staff are informed and helpful - I didn't catch the barman's name but we were being uselessly indecisive about wine and he dealt with us really well. The view - ravishing views over Old Harry Rocks & Bournemouth Bay. The food - beautifully put together based on the '25 mile menu' - the kitchen garden is just a great thing; it is beautiful and clearly productive!. The rooms - ours was mid range and it was very comfortable and everything worked perfectly. Great decor - I loathe the phrase shabby chic but can't think of a better way to put it. This hotel is really good if you like to be beautifully treated but not suffocatingly so. We will return.

Positive aspects:
Location - lovely walking
The room - amazing bathroom, huge bed (such a good bed) radio is nice touch
Food - nice menu, good wine choice, lovely pork loin. Blueberry brioche was great
Reception staff very pleasant

Negative - 9.30 dinner bookings for residents. We could see empty tables but had to sit and wait looking a bit forlorn. The maître d was unhelpful and laid back (please don't say "alright" instead of hello)
Prices - scandalous how expensive it is, especially the fact you have to pay for breakfast. Please lower your prices.
Food - the pork at dinner breakfast was really fatty. Way too much hollandaise on the eggs Benedict; pollock goujons are something straight from Birdseye
There was an unpleasant moment as we were left waiting for our table when the staff became flustered and bent over backwards for some VIPs. We felt very abandoned by this. We are paying customers too!

It was a nice stay just with some unpleasantries. Probably won't go again because I can't afford it and it isn't value for money, which is a shame because it was a great hotel room.

What a truly beautiful spot. Our "room with a view" was gorgeous and it was lovely to see some of the brilliant Pig team here after visiting both Brockenhurst and Bath. Delicious food and wine. Looking forward to returning. If we can get a reservation!

Room Tip: Request a sea view

This is a very two sided review. The good parts: undoubtedly a well set up place, which is ideally located near the beach, and has a great feel and look about it. The food is very good, and is nice to be able to have locally sourced produce, also good to see they have a good sized vegetable plot (which u can wander through), supplying the place. The rooms are well appointed, though probably smaller than what you will perceive via the internet photos, and if a tall person you probably will need to mind your head in some of the rooms given many have A frame type design. The bed itself great and very nice views from bedroom out across the water. Non-managerial staff very friendly and happy to chat. The treatment rooms were novel and good idea (the style of them) given the location of the place. So generally it has it all there for you, if wanting a nice weekend getaway.
There are though a couple of things that leave a bit of a sour taste in the mouth, and are so easily fixed (you would think); The front of house managers are militant (but of course with a smile!). Do not expect to have any lee way if wanting something outside of the bounds of what their operating guidelines are. Late check-out? nope. not even 1 hour. The reason given to us was lame, given you cannot check in until late afternoon and the cleaners themselves told me it takes about 30mins to re-set a room ahead of the next guests. Over the weekend we were there it felt as if you were getting coins picked from your pocket at any opportunity. Charging £10 for a breakfast is not unreasonable, but when u spending in excess of £200 a night anyway for the bed, don't make it so blatant than u are charging for breakfast and just tweak your overnight charge per room. Drinks costs at the bar were akin to a London nightclub. The soft drinks a nice lil earner for them with a 450% mark up! It is noted this is a common comment from other reviewers. We booked many months in advance for both room and restaurant, and the best the restaurant could offer us for dinner was 9.30pm -- and we had booked before they were even taking restaurant bookings!! So I assume they then are shunting the room guests to the later sittings to allow the casual diners in at the more normal eating hours. (again another common issue for persons staying at the hotel - where there is smoke, there might be fire?). No reasons were given for why it was so late, despite such advanced request, other than saying it was the best they could do. Thanks for nothing.
So all in all, its a great place, but has further potential for being easily better, but instead is let down/held back by the people who run it and the model they are using. If you are wanting to aim for the upper end of the market, you need to also be showing you have some customer care in how you operate. As it stands, it seems it is a bit of a false exterior with respect to the management and how they operate, and gives you a feeling more like 'it's all about the money, money', and 'if you don't like it, bothered, someone else will take your place'. ... oh, and don't step outside the white lines of what you can and cannot do - you don't like? your tough luck.. I've seen more flex in an iron rod. So go there, and enjoy it for what it is, but don't expect it to be like a proper high end hotel where they will go the extra mile for you, if you happen to need to alter something (and i'm not talking about changing anything material either). . That's not in their rule book.

Couldn't fault the location, the place, the rooms, or the food. Visited the twice. First on its opening day, and then later in August - on both occasions the builders were still in!!! To date they're just finishing off the overflow car park and the lower grounds.
Booked up well into 2015.

Room Tip: Book early, very early!!!! Ground floor rooms are better.

What a lovely hotel on the cliffs at studland bay great welcome .we had the very top room with a great view of the sea very comfortable good bathroom .
Large grounds with sheep and chickens loads of seats .outside kitchen serving various flatbreads .lovely kitchen garden worth a look.
Evening meal a whole lobster perfectly cooked and again lovely staff
Only disappointment was the quirky restaurent I know this is the style but uncomfortable chairs old wooden tables and antique cutlery made the meal less enjoyable .
Had a great breakfast next morning outside

Room Tip: We had a great room at the top 22 but very many narrow stairs so don't chose if unsteady.

We called in at the Pig one weekend in the summer to look round and perhaps, for my Daughter and her husband to book in for a weekend. We were hoping to have afternoon tea, but were told that we could not have this, as we were not residents, - not even a cup of tea, but we could have drinks. My daughter and son in law have stayed at many of The Pig hotels, but will not be staying here due to their attitude. Extremely pretentious!!
