“Great service, surroundings and food”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

We stayed at The Crown on a cycling tour in the area. The staff could not have been more helpful, even opening breakfast early for us to get off on time. The menu had normal pub fare and some interesting other things and was all delicious. Our room was spotless and really comfortable. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough!

Room Tip: If you need the space, the family room is perfect!

A very comfortable dining pub with rooms - in beautifully converted stable block. Room very spacious (Lucetta), though the barn-like architecture made it rather dark, with limited windows. The staff were friendly, and quick to rectify an error in the make up of the beds - they forgot to note it was a twin booking. Facilities good - particularly unexpected to find a fridge and a safe in such a modestly priced establishment. Good cooked breakfast, but limited choice of cereals. Evening menu had different specials each night - beautiful fresh fish and a well-made bread and butter pudding, with right balance of egg custard and bread. The roast beef was over cooked to my taste, but I find this a common problem when eating out. Definitely the sort of place you'd be happy to return to.

Room Tip: Room 1 (Lucetta) very spacious with sofa beds if required - would suit family.

We arrived on Sunday the 25th of may and was not disappointed .We was shown to our room and was very surprised very spacious. With hair dryer. Safe. Fridge tea coffee and hot chocolate . Breakfast was yogurt cereal fresh fruit and fruit juices. Toast with jam or marmalade . And then a wonderful cooked breakfast. Which you could have full English. Or eggs and home cooked ham or kippers Be careful with the full English it is big. The evening meal what ever you chose is wonderful . people there are very friendly , and so are the locals. All in all a lovely place to stay. We hope to return.

Room Tip: We had room 4 lovely

Our stay at the crown was truly wonderful. Our room Lucetta had three sofas and a more floor space than any hotel room we have had. It's converted barn charm was warm welcoming and very comfortable. With a fridge safe iron and all the extras you would expect from a 5 star hotel. There was more than enough tea ,coffee and hot chocolate .. And my partners particular bugbear.. An excellent amount of milk. The roll top bath was a delight The food in the hotel was excellent quality and very well priced with one of the best breakfasts we have ever had.. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough , budget price with top notch comfort.

Room Tip: "Lucetta" is the biggest room in the hotel it has more floor space than our home!! A truly...

My one-off Expedia booking came in at under £60 B&B, which was great value.... especially given that this is a historic place being the Pure Drop Inn of Thomas Hardy's novels.

It is old but works well, flagged floors, a proper beer-drinking pub and good eatery too. I had a really great diner, and a lovely breakfast (kippers, eggs etc) and a comfy room with everything you could need, including free (working) Wi-Fi.

If I have the chance I will stay again, especially seeing as the landlord was genuinely welcoming and helpful. A real find, worth a visit if you're in the area, though it is somewhat off the beaten track.

Wow! What a little hidden gem.
We were looking for somewhere to stay back in January as my husband was running the North Dorset Marathon on 4th May. With two children it's not always easy finding a place to stay which caters for them plus also giving the adults a little luxury. We came across The Crown Inn which ticked all the boxes. Booked our 3 night stay in the family room on line with no problem.
On arrival on the Friday evening we checked in and were told they had reserved a table for us in case we hadn't eaten. We thought this was a really lovely touch. The family room did not disappoint when we were shown to our room. The children had their own double sofa bed each and we had a comfortable king size bed. There was everything you would expect plus a small fridge which we found very useful. The rooms are located in a separate building to the pub so we didn't suffer any problems with noise from the main building. There was only slight noise from passing traffic which didn't cause any problems for us sleeping. The evening before my husbands marathon, they provided us with a continental breakfast which we could have in our room the next morning (this is when the fridge was extremely handy) as it was such an early start.
The home cooked food didn't disappoint with generous portions both breakfast and evening meals. The staff were so friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us and the children. The location was great with lots to do around the surrounding area.
I would highly recommend The Crown Inn as it's a lovely traditional pub/B&B in the heart of the rural countryside. We will definitely be returning!

A really beautiful rural inn close in Marnhull. changed hands a few times in the last 10 years or so which created some issues that i know of but generally this is a great eatery, drinking place and hotel. If you get the weather then the bear garden is also very nice and the kids love it. Food wise this place has always been great over the years. if ever you are close by its worth popping in but watch the opening hours!
