“Excellent hotel and food”
Reviewed 28 March 2010

I have stayed at Plumber Manor 3 times and enjoyed it very much on all three occassions. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. We have always been made to feel most welcome. We originally booked for January and couldn't get there due to the ice and snow. However, they very kindly allowed us to re-book without any charge for the missed weekend. Bad weather clearly wasn't their fault and they were well within their rights to ask for payment.

Yes the decor is ageing and yes Richard PB can be a little pompous sometimes but never in an arrogant way. In my opinion it is all part of the charm of staying in a country hotel.

We chose Plumber Manor because we are Hardy fans and wanted to walk in Dorset. It was also my wife's birthday. We couldn't have chosen more wisely. We were warmly welcomed as we arrived, the room was lovely and extremely comfortable, the meals were excellent, and very charmingly served, and the surroundings were beautiful. Some have talked about "faded elegance". That is what we most liked about it, the fact that it has been a family home for 300 years. And we thought that for what we got, the price was not excessive. thoroughly recommended.

We held a private function at Plumber Manor, which involved a lunch for two dozen people, and we stayed overnight afterwards.

The staff were very helpful beforehand while we were making the arrangements, and very efficient and courteous when it came to the day itself. Everything went exactly to plan and the service was faultless. We had a memorable lunch with excellent food, beautifully prepared and served. Many of our guests made a point of saying how impressed they were.

It is a lovely place for a quiet stay away, surrounded by lovely countryside. A wonderful old house that has not been spoilt.

Looked great on the web and we booked a weekend to celebrate our 4oth wedding anniversary. It turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. The approach to and the setting of the hotel is perfect. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and has its own gardens which are maintained to a high standard. The hotel is run mature male members of the family that has owned the building for many years. Service is of a high standard.
Perhaps the rooms are a little 'tired' but this adds to the old English charm. The menu has a limited selection of traditional English food and represents very good value for money.
Hope to return when I can next find a good excuse.

Lovely location and grounds to this family owned and run hotel. Our weekend accomodation was in the former stable block (?) , which is 2 minutes walk away from the main house. If its raining - as it did - that can be a bit of a nuisance, but umbrella was thoughtfully provided in room. Room was slightly faded decor wise and bathroom very much in need of a make over (advocado bath circa 1989) but bed comfortable, plenty of space and tea coffee facilities plus homemade shortbread close to hand.
Food in restaurant was classic but i wouldn't say it was top level cuisine - my fish was definately older than it should have been, and the beurre blanc sauce a touch over done. Excellent wine list though, with some reasonably priced good wines. Breakfast menu suprisingly didn't include classics such as porridge or kippers, but the full English was superb. Overall a good experience, although for the price I think I would expect more in the way of facilities and smarter decor.

Our family (and dog) stayed at Plumber this weekend and found it perfect for our needs . We stayed in an outside annex room which was large and comfortable - I found the rather dated decor rather charming. The service was very friendly.. all older men who were related. Our room had home comforts like a Roberts radio and tea making facilities. Perfect for families, particularly if their children are boarding at school in Dorset and are on exeat. A real home from home. The hotel even catered admirably for our Coeliac daughter.

My husband and I spent a weekend there to celebrate my birthday. The grounds of the hotel were lovely; the room was wonderful, very big and comfortable with lots of storage space. There was a separate area up 4 steps with a dressing table, suitcase rack and large bathroom with a wonderful shower. All the meals we had were excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay again.
