“Lovely Stay!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2012

My daughter and I were visiting family in the area, and stayed for one night at the Red Lion. We found the staff very welcoming, we parked on the forecourt outside, and were shown to a bright, clean room, with one double bed in the main room with a couple of chairs, a table with tea/coffee etc, a flatscreen TV and the bathroom off, with a doorway leading to a second large area containing a 'day bed', wardrobe, Tv and dressing table. It was all spotless, and we soon settled in and booked a table for dinner in the restaurant.
The dinner was ok, the very friendly young waitress took a little time to take our order, but food arrived soon enough. My brother had the curry, my daughter and I had quiche, mine with chips, and she asked for new potatoes. Unfortunately, we both got chips, but she decided to just eat this, as we were tight for time and all the food was very good, with a great salad. We slept well, and were down for breakfast, which again unfortunately arrived incorrectly, my daughter asking for the veggie eggs benedict, it arrived with bacon, which was promptly re-done. I had egg on toast, the toast arrived burnt and cold, so I just did some for myself at the buffet table. Other than these small issues with food, the Red Lion is really welcoming and comfortable, we would definitely stay here again, although at £120 it isn't particularly cheap, but I like cleanliness and comfort, so would pay the price. I wonder if the waitresses were to write down the orders, this would prevent the mistakes? Apparently, this pub used to be rather down at heel, so well done to the proprietors, the Red Lion gets the thumbs up!

Room Tip: We had room 3, perfect for a small family, with a view over the High Street. A tiny bit of road nois...

Thank you for your kind comments. We are pleased that the staff were friendly and welcoming. However I must apologise about the slip ups with your orders! We have had a change of staff due to university starting etc and the new staff, especially since your review, have had increased coaching sessions and reinforcement re the importance of details and writing information down!
Thank you for your fair review - constructive criticism is always welcome and we always strive to improve!
Regards
Lisa

Parking at the hotel was made easy by phoning ahead on arriving in Wareham as suggested by the hotel. The room was huge and very comfortable. I have to commend the cleaning staff as the room was kept spotless during our stay. I found the chimes from the Town hall clock curiously comforting and didnot keep me awake. The food at the hotel was good especially the breakfast which kept us going all day. Staff made us feel very welcome.
Only crtical observation was the lack of a shower in the room. However a soak int he bath was not a bad expereince and made a pleasant change.

Room Tip: phone ahead on arrival to Wareham to get parking allocated

Arrived and the car parking was a little tricky but we managed, had to stop the traffic in the main street, checked in and extremely friendly and polite taken to the room and it was a very nice surprise the rooms were done tastefully and not ruined during the renovations, lovely and clean and presented perfectly. The room was large and airy with windows that went out into the roof. The bathroom was also quite large the only slight negative was only a bath, no shower but not the end of the world. Food was good and so was the bar, even though a little expensive for a pub.The clock tower was a little noisy and the traffic noise became apparent early in the morning

Room Tip: Ask for the quiet rooms

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. I hope that you weren't disturbed excessively? Unfortunately our town centre location does have its disadvantages as well as advantages, although guests don't generally find it too much of a problem. We appreciate that we are slightly more expensive than your standard pub. We strive to achieve a balance between the best quality products and reasonable prices.
Thanks again

We have stayed here before and really enjoyed it. Earlier this week we were on our way to Dorset and found their number and website very easily, we rang and the price they quoted was cheaper than the internet price. We arrived later than expected but they were very welcoming. Both rooms we have stayed in were luxurious and lovely bathrooms with great toiletries. After a great nights sleep in crisp White cotton sheets we went down for breakfast, this was included in the price. We both chose the full English, the fried bread (doorsteps) and sausages were really good, they also know how to cook tomatoes. There was doorstep bread for you to make your own toast and you helped yourself to a variety of juices. We will definately be staying here again. What was really nice was that we were recognised from before, which must have been nearly a year ago

I thought that this place did what it should, clean and spacious room, good food and good beer. The only downside is the proximity to the clock tower which does chime every hour.....through the night!

We have been visiting Wareham for many years now and have always struggled to find somewhere good to stay. We always ended up staying at the Priory which although lovely is rather overpriced and sometimes a little stuffy. We had heard that the Red Lion had been refurbished and what a great job they've done. The rooms are light spacious and very well equipped. It is very clear that a lot of thought has gone into the refurb project i.e. they are catering for their guests!!

Great tea and coffee making facilities in the room, plenty of towels, lovely quality bed linen and a gorgeous little room off our room for our 2 year old daughter to sleep in.

From making the reservation it was clear that customer service was important, Beth looked after us very well and remembered every detail.

The breakfast was really good too. Gorgeous bread!!

We will definitely be returning and recommending to our friends.

Room Tip: We had a double with adjoining single room on the front (main road) however if you are a light sleep...

I stayed at the Red Lion for 3 nights. I stayed in a suite at the front of the hotel and it really was beautifully decorated. It was clean and fresh and a real sanctuary. A few of the other reviews have mentioned noise level and this room was noisy - there's no getting away from it. However, the hotel *is* on a main road, so if you turn up expecting countryside-style silence then that can't really be blamed on The Red Lion!

The staff were very friendly, and the courtyard is a really lovely addition.

My only gripe is that they're still finishing the renovations and haven't sorted the water pressure yet so there was no shower. This would have been fine, but the bath would only fill up a small amount before the water literally stopped running. I would have liked to have been warned about this before I arrived.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear of the property for a quieter night sleep, and ask about the water situat...

Thank you so much for your lovely review! Your comment about noise was beautifully put! We will be installing showers in the next phase of refurbishment. However I would like to apologise for the water pressure issue which was caused by a fault and was fixed after your departure.
We are pleased that you enjoyed your trip!
