My daughter and I were visiting family in the area, and stayed for one night at the Red Lion. We found the staff very welcoming, we parked on the forecourt outside, and were shown to a bright, clean room, with one double bed in the main room with a couple of chairs, a table with tea/coffee etc, a flatscreen TV and the bathroom off, with a doorway leading to a second large area containing a 'day bed', wardrobe, Tv and dressing table. It was all spotless, and we soon settled in and booked a table for dinner in the restaurant.
The dinner was ok, the very friendly young waitress took a little time to take our order, but food arrived soon enough. My brother had the curry, my daughter and I had quiche, mine with chips, and she asked for new potatoes. Unfortunately, we both got chips, but she decided to just eat this, as we were tight for time and all the food was very good, with a great salad. We slept well, and were down for breakfast, which again unfortunately arrived incorrectly, my daughter asking for the veggie eggs benedict, it arrived with bacon, which was promptly re-done. I had egg on toast, the toast arrived burnt and cold, so I just did some for myself at the buffet table. Other than these small issues with food, the Red Lion is really welcoming and comfortable, we would definitely stay here again, although at £120 it isn't particularly cheap, but I like cleanliness and comfort, so would pay the price. I wonder if the waitresses were to write down the orders, this would prevent the mistakes? Apparently, this pub used to be rather down at heel, so well done to the proprietors, the Red Lion gets the thumbs up!
