“Best value in Wareham”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Stayed here over the weekend with a small group. This hotel could not be more centrally located. Walking distance to everywhere with shops, cafes, walks, boat trips all on the doorstep. Easy reach to Swanage or Poole or the wonderful Jurassic coast. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. Staff and service excellent in very way. We ate here one evening and the food was very good. There is limited parking outside if you get here early enough otherwise it's £3.50 in the long term car park for 24 hours (400 yards away). Lots of real ales and decent wines at the bar and a nice courtyard to sit out in the summer. Slightly disappointed that the bar closed at 11.00 prompt with no extension for residents but not really an issue. Breakfast is plentiful with lots of hot options plus fresh fruit, cereals and yoghurts. Good value all round for the price. We would recommend this place highly.

The room: Huge, tastefully and modernly furnished, free wi-fi , dependent on how close you are to the bar. Really comfortable bed, but beware of chiming clock, dependent on where your room is. location: On main high street in Wareham, parking out the front but limited.
Food: Breakfast cooked fresh to order, but yogurts and juices available. Dinner was great and reasonably priced.
The best part, the resident Great Dane, she is gorgeous!

Room Tip: Away from the chiming clock!!

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Red Lion. Excellent stay from first been greeted to the staff saying goodbye. I was allocated a clean, comfortable, spacious room with all the expected amenities. All the staff, without exception, were professional and very friendly. Most impressed that on the second evening they could remember what I'd ordered the previous night in both the bar and the restaurant. The clock from the town hall on the opposite of the road CAN be heard during the night but I certainly didn't find that it affected me. Also I found no problems with the traffic, despite the Red Lion being at the town's traffic lights. There was also none of the noise from groups of youths outside mentioned in a previous review. The bar had a good selection of ales, including some local West Country ones and was well patronised by both locals and visitors. Breakfast on each morning was plentiful and cooked to order. Evening meals were from an extensive menu and were well served, well cooked and of more than sufficient quantity. Indeed the steak, mushroom, Dorset ale suet pudding was probably the best that I've ever tasted. In all a really great break and I'm already planning a return visit within the next 18 months.

Stayed here for one night and rooms are very spacious and clean. Whilst no shower, the bath was great. As I only have a shower at home it made a great change. Food was very good and very well presented. Breakfast was cooked to order and great too. Local council empting bins very early did not help but not much the Hotel can do about this.

Stayed at the Red Lion for a weekend break to celebrate my birthday. We loved our room which was spacious, spotlessly clean and quiet(as requested). The service whilst we were there was of an excellent standard from friendly attentive staff.Plenty of hot choices on the breakfast menu. I sampled the traditional breakfast which was enormous and filled me up for the whole day.Did not eat in the restaurant in the evenings as we had other plans but the menu choice and food looked good.

Room Tip: We found room 5 very quiet and spacious.
