“Friendly staff, tasty home cooked food.”

This pub definitely deserves more reviews thank it has and better ones at that! Whilst on holiday in Swanage, me, my partner A and our 6 month old baby visited The Halfway Inn for late lunch/dinner. This really is a lovely place to eat, very welcoming, especially if you have children! We only stopped here as my partner saw the huge writing on the side of the pub saying 'Badger Beer'- his favourite!! The staff made us feel very welcome, inparticular Carrie. She asked straight away if our baby boy needed a high chair, and was very attentive, chatty and friendly. Nothing was too much effort for the staff here. The food was great, just what we fancied. I had one the specials; tasty chicken and ham hock pie with lovely, creamy mash and perfectly cooked veg. My partner had BBQ spare ribs, wedges and coleslaw, again, from the BBQ sauce all over his face I'm guessing he enjoyed his too! To finish I had a very yummy, sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice-cream and A had warm choc brownies with clotted cream ice-cream. Faultless! If we return to Swanage, which I'm sure we will, we will definitely pay The Halfway Inn anoter visit! Thank you very much :)

“Lovely staff and atmosphere, but the food isn't great”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2011

We went on a very busy Sunday evening, and I hope the food that evening was a reflection of that, and not a general standard.

I have to say the staff were great, they were attentive, even when rushed off their feet, and were incredibly helpful when it came to accommodating the Vegan in our party. In the end, the Vegan ended up with the nicest food!

The food was mediocre for the most part, I ordered lasagne, which arrived in a white dish, but the Lasagne only filled 2/3rds of it! (Lengthways). One of our children had the children's mac and cheese, which tasted like wallpaper paste (literally just flour and water - no cheese that neither we - nor the staff - could determine).

A real shame, as it could have been lovely....

“Friendly, good food and service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2011

Went in with friends and despite being very busy they managed to find a table for us. The food came out quickly (although not so quickly as to be worrying!) and was well cooked and tasty. Great service, a lovely atmosphere, would definitely return if in the area.

“Not typical of main road pubs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2011

We generally give main-road pubs in tourist areas a wide berth, but we're glad we made an exception here.
The pub is perpendicular to the road, so that when you enter, you immediately get the sense of a country pub rather than a roadhouse, and everything about it was a really pleasant bonus. It had an impressively different menu for vegetarians and a very good range of specials to complement the main menu. The homed made chicken pie with a cider cream sauce was truly delicious.
Good beers were available on the hand-pumps and excellent service was provided from attentive, friendly antipodeans who seemed genuinely pleased to be working there. There wasn't a pram or buggy in sight and it was free of piped music. Wonderful.
