We stayed at the Priory Hotel for a weekend in early July. In town, but set apart, the hotel really is a little country house, with a comfortable lounge area, pleasant and efficient service, and fine meals.

As a traveling couple (both living in the US although my partner is originally from England), we thoroughly enjoy the 'country house' experience--where you begin your meal in the lounge with a drink and perhaps an appetizer, the menu to peruse, then a leisurely walk to the dining room for dinner, then coffee back at the lounge. We have enjoyed it at other country house type hotels in the UK as well (Gilpin Lodge and Losehill House), and it makes the dinner hour a relaxing and wonderful one.

The dinners were excellent--fine soups and appetizers, well prepared main dishes, and a particularly nice wine recommendation.

The mini suite we stayed in was in the boathouse, and although our room didn't look out on the river, we had a lovely view of Lady St. Mary Church and the grounds of the hotel. The room was spacious and the large, beautifully equipped bathroom had both a shower and a wonderful tub with jets. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. The only very minor negative is that the bedroom was a bit dark (heavy woods, dark red colors and low lighting). That's not really a problem, as I bring a portable reading light because I need good light to read.

Because the weather was particularly bad (heavy rains) the one full day we were there, we did not get to enjoy the grounds as much as we would have liked, eating breakfast outside facing the river or having our pre dinner drinks on the patio. Still the comfort of the lounge, the pleasant and excellent service in the breakfast room and the fine dinner made it worthwhile. NOTE for those of you who find a rainy day in Wareham--there's a fascinating tank museum (yes, tanks) just a few miles away, and we ended up spending a few hours there learning much about WWI and WWII history.

I highly recommend the Priory Hotel if you are looking to enjoy a lovely country house experience with comfortable rooms, fine food, and attentive service. I hope we get a chance to return.

We have been coming here for many years. This being our first visit since I joined Trip Adviser, I looked at the previous entries. They were, as expected, almost all at the highest level. The one or two that were not appeared to me to have been written by someone with a chip on their shoulder. We certainly cannot fault this hotel in any way and agree with the general tenor of comments. We shall certainly ( dv ) be coming again, and just hoping for better weather than we had last week.

Our stay at the Priory far exceeded our expectations. Set in the ancient village of Wareham, it looks over lovely gardens to the river and fields across. The ensuite accomodations are very modern, the the public rooms comfortable and dining is an experience not to be missed.

Service was friendly and efficient. Parking is available on the property and a short walk away are (we hear) fourteen pubs. Wevisited only The Quay Inn--good beer and pub lunches. Our time flew by too fast.

The Priory is well located for exploring the south coast of England.

Had the opportunity to see several rooms here. The one we occupied definitely in need of an update. I feel the hotels main selling points are the beautiful gardens, the excellent restaurant and superb breakfasts. The staff are also excellent.

However, if the weather means you are unable to ramble the grounds, and if you have not booked for an evening meal, it is really down to your bedroom. So, if it is a luxurious bedroom you are wanting, you may be disappointed.

Room with breakfast:and dinner, lowest price circa £260. I am reviewing the restaurant separately.

Stayed at the hotel for a long weekend and booked the breakfast and dinner option. The hotel, food and service is great and I have nothing to fault. The only downsides were that our room was above the kitchen and we were treated to the aroma of cooked breakfast every morning - an acquired taste. Also lots of creaky floorboards which did not aid a lie in!

If you require a twin room beat to call an check as all double rooms can not be converted to a twin so we had to upgrade. Car parking also not an issue - ample spaces in a gated car park.

The garden is very beautiful and overall a relaxing and pleasant stay.

Beautiful old building, in good condition with fine period details, the snug bar being an especial favorite. The staff are welcoming and helpful and the rooms are decorated in an appropriate way however bathrooms etc are modern - everything works. Grounds are beautiful, 3/4 acres of traditional gardens with a main lawn running down to the river and a terrace where meals are served in the summer.

The Drinks canapies and menus start the eveing meal, the food is locally sourced and beautifully cooked, modern English cooking made even more enjoyable by the pleasant and efficient service.

Not our first trip and definately not our last.

Room Tip: nice to have a view of the gardens.
