Went camping with my brother here for a couple of nights in the middle of August. We didn't book, so thought we may not be able to get a pitch, although we were actually one of only two tents in the whole park. Mostly filled with Campervans and Caravans, Birchwood is a large camping park with clean toilets & showers and full of plenty of green spaces for games etc. There is also a shop on site which has lots of snacks and food/drink to buy. Interesting to see that during peak time it wasn't full at all, but it isn't because the campsite doesn't have the necessary facilities for an enjoyable few days away.

Nice quiet site (But it wasn't school holiday time so it may get noisier!) with very friendly staff and immaculate toilet blocks and showers. Plenty to do in the area and Wareham was very pretty with some nice traditional shops. There is a games field for football and a small pool for children along with swings and play equipment. Plenty of rubbish stations with recycling facilities, drinking water and grey water drains.
The only things we could say against the site was that if you like to use public transport there is no bus service on the road outside of the site, you have to drive to Wareham and park so as to catch a bus at the railway station. We used a cab (Jurrasic Cabs) and for 8 people from the site to Wareham for a meal and it was £14 and they were excellent time keepers.)
We were on pitch 46 near the forest (access direct from the site at several points) and we found the midgies very VERY active from about 8 pm at night. This may be a seasonal thing but as the shop has a large range of Citronella candles and sprays they are aware that there is a problem at times at least. As no one who went in May and posted reviews mentioned them perhaps it is a seasonal occurance.

Room Tip: We were on pitch 46 near the woods so others away from the trees may be less prone to midgies!.

Being new to caravan camping we wanted to go out for a test run and stayed at Birchwood. What a nice little camp site, friendly and knowledgable staff ready to lend a hand, great location by the edge of the forest and nice facilities. Have since been back at least a couple of times a year, just to get away.
The shower blocks are clean and the little shop has most things you could want.
Close to ware ham and swanage etc, an ideal location.
The forest is on the doorstep and has great walks.
Wold highly recommend to all style of campers.

We are an open, rural Park surrounded by Wareham Forest, our boundary adjoining the forest so with direct access for walking and cycling. Dogs are welcome on a short lead. We are open most of the year, including over Christmas and New Year when our block-paved hard-standing serviced pitches are open. There is a well-stocked shop in the Reception, two toilet blocks with free showers and we offer a range of pitches; including block-paved hard-standings with gravel area for awning, grass pitches or gravel pitches, fully serviced (16 amp electric hook up, water & drain connection points and TV socket point), or electric hook ups (10 amp) connection and plenty of space for tents. We have a barrier system for entry and exit onto the Park, operated by a number- plate recognition system linked to your booking and which deactivates overnight to prevent cars driving onsite after 10.00 pm and before 7 am. The Park is set in 27 acres and has a large separate games field for ball games, tennis area, kite flying or group activities. We also have a 2 foot (0.6m) deep unheated paddling pool for the children, a sandpit, swings and play area near the central toilet block. ... more   less
