I have seen plenty of adverts for The Tickled Pig and so we decided to try it for a summer lunch. On arrival we found a warm welcome waiting for us and were shown to a large (for 2) and comfortable table. The menu is relatively short using fresh local seasonal ingredients and we both fancied the slow roast pork, but unfortunately this was the one dish not available! After some delicious sourdough bread, we instead settled for lamb and rump steak, both of which were served with an excellent variety of vegetables. We also really enjoyed the Apple and Elderflower Presse, which was one of a number of different soft drinks available. The menu appears to change regularly and we will definitely be back to try the next offering in the autumn.

Dinner for three was really good - all the starters and mains were outstanding (we didn't have dessert)and the staff were spot on. Although we were early (1845) the restaurant was very busy - testament to the consistently high quality of food and service.

Poor choice with many dishes unavailable, poor ingredients (tasteless, too old) burnt food. Good presentation and service doesn't make up the failings.

It was Thursday lunch time and with hunger driving us on and not wanting to get involved with the Bournemouth tourist crowds we decided to venture over to Wimborne. And how pleased we did after discovering the 'Tickled Pig'. Set just off the main square it looks quite unassuming and could easily be walked passed. On entering we received a friendly welcome and were given the option of eating inside or out, we chose to stay inside. The menu is quite small but covers all the bases, a chalk board informed us that the majority of their salad and veg items are home grown by themselves. My partner had pigeon breast to start and I had the mackerel, they were both cooked perfectly and the accompanying salads were delicious. For mains we both plumped for the lamb chops with rapeseed oil mash roasted beets and nettle sauce, they all came together wonderfully and two clean plates were returned to the kitchen.
At this stage we were both relatively full but after experiencing the previous two courses, desserts were not going to escape us! My partner had the cheese board which came with homemade crackers and quince chutney, oh and three excellent cheeses. I settled with a 'Bay leaf' panna cotta and chargrilled apricots ( I'll never call panna cotta boring again )!
The lady who looked after us was very friendly and knowledgable which added to the overall memorable experience. The menus being very seasonal change every month, but there is no way I'm waiting that long to go back!

We visited this restaurant on a weekday as everytime I've tried to book at the weekend we've never managed to get in!! I was keen to try this restaurant as the reviews looked so good and we're local to the area. The restaurant is layed out very well, lots of choices of where to sit, there's the front area, upstairs and garden which was cosy. We chose to eat inside. The staff were very pleasant and the service was also very good. We were mildly dissapointed by the amount of choice on the menu and chose well with our starters which were lovely. Unfortunately we both chose the rump steak for our main which was cooked to a medium rare for both of us, I had to send mine back as it was too rare. The other problem with the steak was the amount of fat, you expect some fat but this was LOADS. We did comment to the staff not complain and they kindly got the owner to speak with us regarding this. He was understanding that the steak wasn't as good as it should be but said this was the cut from their local butcher who felt it was a good cut. We did beg to differ but all in all our main meal was ok. He did offer to only charge for one steak but we declined as we only wanted to advise of the steak problem. Not a 5 star review sorry.
