“Good central location, recently refurbished.”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

This is a character old Coaching Inn which has undergone a face-lift from the last 2 times we stayed there when it could be described as shabby chic ! All painted up but in subtle colours so fitting in with the age and style of the property. Very welcoming staff throughout. We had booked a superior room (8 ) which was well worth the extra, it had a sofa and chair in a sitting area. Large bathroom and wardrobe, plenty of space if you were to use it as a holiday base. Not a great view but it is a town centre. Remarkable value in the restaurant, 2 mains for £9.99, can't go wrong. Very good breakfast cooked to order which is always a bonus. As far as I know, there isn't a lift so it would be worth checking that out if you need it. Smallish car park at the rear, if you arrive early and can get a space, I would keep it there !

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for a superior room.

Popped in for a quick sandwich & coffee in the bar area on a Saturday lunchtime.
The menu read is fairly impressive although when I tried to order a Club Sandwich I was informed they had run out which suggests to me they are not freshly made on the premises !!
A Tuna Mayo was ordered as an alternative unfortunately the brown granary bread whilst good was cut so thick it completely masked out what little Tuna Mayo 'paste' filling was smeared inside.
Overall service was too slow, coffee was luke warm (small cups) and sandwich very disappointing.
I would not go back for a 'quick' light lunch as there are much better alternatives in Wimborne.

A classic coaching inn which has been greatly refurbished and provides reasonably priced comfortable accommodation with friendly service from attentive staff. The restaurant provides what could best be described as good homely cooking and is clearly popular as it was full on a Monday evening. The one black mark comes from a lack of a lift. For those on the top floor it was quite a trek.

My husband and I have just returned from our third stay at the Kings Head in Wimborne. The renovations to the hotel were a nice surprise and our room was very comfortable and clean. All the staff were very pleasant and friendly and in the restaurant were very efficient and attentive even making sure the sauce bottles were spotless at breakfast! The breakfast was excellent with pleanty of choice and the evening meals were reasonably priced and well presented. Wimborne is a delightful little town and the hotel is central to all the amenities. We will be back and would have no hesitation in recommending The Kings Head.

Stayed here recently and found it to be extremely good value for money. Our room was spacious with a sitting area , plenty of storage and a good sized bathroom, with proper sized bath towels. Not a great view though as it overlooked the car park. However the location is good right in the centre of Wimborne. Breakfast was just about ok one morning when it was very busy but much better the morning after when many of a large party had departed.
Only other complaint that our reception on arrival was pretty poor, we waited for an age for someone to check us in , with several staff walking passed us and ignoring us.

We booked a table in this recently refurbished hotel for dinner last evening. We had a nice table in the window and studied the menu. After half an hours wait with no one taking our order, we went and found someone who said they would come to our table shortly. We placed our order and in reasonable time our first course arrived and was delicious. When our second course arrived, the dish I ordered (which happened to be vegetarian), had been replaced by a chicken dish. The waitress apologised and went back for the correct meal which did involve a bit more waiting. After that course we waited again hoping to order a third course but no service was on offer. After twenty minutes we placed our order for a cheese board. No more activity for another twenty minutes until we found a waitress to ask how it was going. She returned almost instantly with the cheese board which must have been already waiting but not delivered. After she left us we realised we had no knives. In the circumstances we decided to manage with our fingers! It was such a shame that the service was so slow as the meal, when it appeared, was excellent.

We have eaten here at least a dozen times over the years as we are locals, and have enjoyed ourselves considering it to be a value for money with nice surroundings. Having met the last manager in a professional capacity, I was looking forward to the revamp and new menu. All seemed well until the food arrived - it was absolutely dreadful!! All four of us had a very bad meals and they were all different. My burger was worse than something from McDonalds and had been cooked near or with fat from something that left a very bad smell and taste. The chips were soggy and listless. My wife had a chicken dish that was supposed to come with a salad - it was more like a garnish. I'm afraid to say we will never darken their doors again. The only positive was the staff were very pleasant and we had no gripe about them at all.
