We as a couple had a meal last night and couldn't fault it, tapas was tasty, haddock and chips very nice and halibut fillet with chorizo very well cooked, OK the pub is a bit shabby but meals cannot be faulted, have dined here before and never been disappointed

A bit of a nostalgia trip was a big disappointment. As someone else says "It used to be in a great location [...] Instead of looking out on the village green, that’s now a car park."
We had lunch in the bar. it doesn't look like the pictures (which I guess were of the restaurant, cos there were no tablecloths where we were) and its a bit scruffy. We both had pie & chips. Can't fault the quantity (we've both got big appetites but had to leave some food) and there were masses of nicely cooked veg. Pie was average (but plenty of it) and the chips were nice. What spoiled it a bit was that everything was swamped in a "generic" gravy.

The Duke at Cottingham is a classic example of a pub reinventing itself. It’s still a pub, and a pretty good one. It’s also a restaurant, going beyond what is usually considered pub food. And it has its own tea room. In fact, it’s doing a good job of being all three, but when you’re there. at least in my case, there’s a sense of mixed messages, like going into a library and stumbling upon a small ice skating rink through one of the doors. I think it’s just a question of presentation. It looks like a pub from the outside, but there's more inside than you expect.

I went there for lunch with a friend. There was a good selection of ales (they have received the Cask Marque of approval), and the menu does it credit. You can have snacks and sandwiches in the bar area, or have lunch or a three course dinner in the dining area. Or forego all that and have tea and cake in the tea room.

It used to be in a great location. The pub hasn’t moved, the times have. Instead of looking out on the village green, that’s now a car park. The signs on the door tell you it's illegal to take your drinks outside, on the street, but they don’t invite you to use their lovely outdoor area - presentation again.

But it’s a good pub, with good food, right in the centre of Cottingham.

This tea room is situated within The Duke of Cumberland pub. We each had the afternoon tea, one with ham & pickle sandwiches and cherry & marzipan scone with strawberry jam and cream. The other with beef & homemade beef dripping & red onion sandwiches and orange scone with lemon curd. Each had a different pot of tea. It was absolutely lovely, the only fault was they had forgotten to put the coleslaw on the plate. We mentioned a spare pot of hot water would have been welcome, but they said no problem, we should have asked. This delightful little tea room is well worth going to., We left with a full stomach and only compliments on the quality of food and service. Only marked down one point due to not having the coleslaw. Each afternoon tea was priced at £ 9.95. The tea room is helping to raise funds for a little girl aged 6 called Ellie Mai who sadly passed away earlier this year. Go on - support them and have a wonderful afternoon treat - you will not be disappointed.

Just had a mediteranean salad in the Duke at a shade under £7. It was really well presented and the taste didn't disappoint. Fresh ingedients, lots of Feta Cheese, olives and chorizo, balsamic dressing, a hot bread roll and herb butter. If you haven't been to the Duke for a while, give it a try. John and Tracy have really had an impact.
