“Charming hotel”
Reviewed 7 June 2010

Recently my husband and I went to the Old Inn. We hadn't been to the Old Inn before and having spent such an amazing time there I felt i should post a review.
Our bedroom was beautiful, the highlight was the gorgeous four poster bed, the room really had 'old world charm'. The bathroom was lovely too and had a great shower. Both rooms were spotlessly clean.
We ate in the Bistro and really enjoyed our meal, the food was very tasty - my husband had the steak and thought it was beautiful, he's hard to please when it comes to steak!! The service was great and found the staff very helpful when we asked about the menu.
After our meal we went into the bar and stayed there the whole evening. It was cosy with fires lit and there was plenty of craic.
The next morning we had a lovely buffet breakfast followed by 2 lovely ulster frys. Just as we were about to check out we got an impromptu tour of the Hotel courtesy of one of the staff. It was just so friendly and full of atmosphere we can't wait to go back.
Great place, great memories and highly recommended!
It couldn't have been better!

I/We have stayed here many many times over 20 years and have never once had any problem. I don't understand some of the reviews here. This is a very old Inn full of charm and character some miles from Belfast. Don't come for the shopping or local night life! But it is only a matter of 15 mins to the centre. There are lots of low ceilings, beams and antiques. Reception, with a log fire, has always been warm and friendly. I have slept in every type of room, inc the Cottage. My preference is always for a superior room. Large, comfortable, clean bright rooms with excellent bathrooms. The dining value is very hard to beat with a choice of 3 eating areas...the bar, the Bistro and the restaurant. I have eaten in all three (and the library for afternoon tea!) and I can't remember a bad meal. The food is competent with some flaws but still represents great value... so it has to be judged on this basis. Breakfast is absolutely all you would need, well laid out and served. We have not had the issues mentioned here regarding service. The girls in the dining rooms are always friendly....we did have 1 hiccup with a guy (unfriendly) in the Bistro, but it was no big deal.
When we want nightlife/bars we have stayed in 5 star Hotels in Belfast (very mixed!). However we always want to come back here and always enjoy our stay. Again...we have never had an issue ever with the staff and especially the Manager (mentioned on other reviews) who we have the highest regard for and find him to be a hard working professional who has always treated us well.

stayed in this hotel for two nights as was attending a wedding in the culodeon hotel. we were given the oriental poppy room and it was fabulous. the hotel has a lovely homely atmosphere about it and the breakfast is excellent huge choice and really good food, ate dinner here on one night also and while the service was slow (really busy) the food was nice and good value.

My sister had her wedding here in July 2009, the location and look and feel of the Old Inn are fantastic but this was totally undermined by the sub standard meal which was served to us on the day. The soup was too salty, the meat was tough and the vegetables were under cooked. Without exception this was the worst wedding meal I have ever had, a view which was shared by the majority of the guests.

Dear Jason - I'm sorry you felt compelled to write a review, but when reading a review from an event 10 months ago it's very hard to gather any more information in order to check the issues you describe. We have 2 AA Rosettes for Food Quality which is a standard we aim to reflect in every part of the Hotel and indeed most of our comments from wedding guests point out the very fact that our wedding food is well beyond their expectations. I am sorry however that your experience was not a happy one. Your comments have been brought to the attention of our Executive Head Chef and his team, with our gratitudes.

Having enjoyed our wedding reception here a good few years ago, we would still have the odd night in the Old Inn every now and then, just as a treat and a chance to get away and unwind for a while.
We booked in for a midweek special "bed and breakfast" deal, dropped the children off at granny's and headed down to Crawfordsburn.
Check in was very quick and straight forward, a special mention to Lynsay on reception for her very pleasant manner.
We received our room key and took our bag up to the room, it was rear facing and had views over the country park, a nice quiet room. The room itself was a deluxe double, with all the usual amenities, very nicely decorated, and all in all, very cosy. We enjoyed a coffee in the room, and watched a bit of television, a flat screen tv mounted on the wall, but with a very bad signal at times, which is sometimes the norm for hotel Tv. We decided to eat in the hotel as it was dinner time and we chose from the "sizzler" menu, a main course, 3 choices, a dessert, 1 choice, and a glass of wine, which for £10 per person is very good value, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, no complaints whatsoever and great service aswell.
We headed out after our meal for a nice long walk through Crawfordsburn country park, which is just to the rear of the hotel and returned a while later where we sat for a while in the bar and had a drink, which again is a lovely place to sit in peace and quiet and just relax.
Moving swiftly on to breakfast, and we were not disappointed, a great selection of cereal, toast, fruit juice, yoghurt, croissants, danish, and fresh fruit, porridge was also available and then the fantastic cooked breakfast, or an "ulster fry" as we say here. Can't fault the breakfast at all and we must have sat for an hour or so just drinking coffee and chatting, the restaurant manger was also very helpful and deserves a special mention, although he had no name badge, sorry.
Check out was quick and efficient and without delay, and we were soon on our way again.
So to sum up my experience of the Old Inn, i would have to give them top marks on all services, and i would not hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone, will we be back ? yes, absolutely.

I note that there have been a number of lousy reviews about the Old Inn recently. These reviewers obviously had their reasons for marking it down, but all I can say qwas that it was a wonderful experience.

From the moment I rang the hotel to book, everything was handled (by Debbie) in a friendly and efficient manner. Check in was good and our room 'the old bay tree suite' was excellent - I had specified a quiet room and despite the hotel being packed (Valentines Night) the room was totally insulated from noise.

The food was good and the price was an incredible bargain. I would recommend it and will return.

Me and my partner stayed here mid - week as a valentines treat. On arrival to the hotel we had speedy check in by a pleasant receptionist and our room was lovely, warm and clean. I had checked on trip advisor prior to going and there were some very bad reviews about it but i have to say we both enjoyed it very much.

Breakfast was brilliant with such an enormous selection and the staff are great. We didnt have evening meals at the hotel as we wanted to eat at other venues that we had prior arranged but we did go into the bar both nights and its lovely and has lots of drinks including a cocktail menu and the craic was great.

My partner smokes and we couldnt believe the smoking area outside,, it is excellent, open fire and lots of seating areas. There is a PC for guests to use down in reception near the open fire. If you like old worlde places as we do then do visit here, its well worth it!
